CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Coastal Carolina junior Marissa Hinchman along with Winthrop's Jennifer Dilger have been selected the Choice Hotels Big South Women's Co-Golfers of the Week, the league office announced Thursday.
Hinchman captured her first career tournament title at the JU Classic (par 72, 5,987 yards), leading Coastal to the team title as well. She shot rounds of 70-70-73 for a 3-under 213 score and one stroke victory. Her first and second round 70 marked the first time in her career she recorded multiple rounds under par in the same tournament, and she finished with 11 birdies and 35 pars on the course that played to an average score of 77.54. Hinchman's 54-hole score of 213 was also a career best and is tied for fourth-best in Coastal history. Her win was the 20th in program history and first since Brittany Henderson won the 2013 Big South Championship.
The Golfer of the Week award is the first of Hinchman's career. In addition, she joins Lena Schaeffner as Chanticleers to earn the conference honor this season.
The Chanticleers now turn their focus to the Palmetto Intercollegiate hosted at the Turtle Pointe Golf Course on Kiawah Island, S.C. The 54-hole tournament, which will be the Chants' final of the fall 2014 season, gets underway on Oct. 26 and concludes on the 28th.
