MYRTLE BEACH - Anthony Marks drove in a pair of runs Thursday afternoon to lead the Teal team to a 4-1 victory and defeat the Black squad two games to three to win the annual Coastal Carolina Fall Baseball World Series.
The Teal, which lost the opening game of the series, overcame a four-run deficit in extra innings Wednesday and had to overcome an early 1-0 setback Thursday.
After a scoreless first inning, the Black grabbed an early 1-0 lead. G.K. Young was hit by a pitch and eventually scored on a Josh Crump RBI single
In the third inning for the Teal, Jeffery Scott was hit by a pitch and scored when Marks delivered an RBI double. Marks later scored on a Dalton Ewing single to give the Teal a 2-1 lead.
The Teal pushed their advantage to 3-1 in the fifth inning. Seth Lancaster doubled and Marks followed with an RBI single.
The Black threatened in the top of the sixth, putting runners on second and third with one out, but Mike Morrison worked out of the jam. In the home half of the sixth, the Teal tacked on an insurance run. Ewing singled to center and, after a wild pitch, Jack Curtis plated Ewing with an RBI single.
Tom Durkin closed out the win for the Teal squad by recording a pair of strikeouts in the top of the seventh to earn the save. Cole Schaefer was credited the win. He pitched four complete innings, allowed one run and struck out three.
Coastal Carolina will open the 2015 season on February 13, which is a mere 14 weeks away.
