Coastal's win advances the Chanticleers to 22-6 overall, 11-3 in Big South play. The Chants currently occupy second place in the conference as the team prepares for the Big South Championship, which begins with the quarterfinal round on Thursday at The HTC Center. High Point, meanwhile, drops to 12-15, 6-8, and is currently in sixth place.
Leah Hardeman's double-double paced the Chants as the freshman outside hitter tallied 16 kills and 13 digs. She added a service ace and block assist to total a match-leading 17.5 points.
Martin and Annayka Legros each provided 10 kills. Legros also led all players with six blocks to finish with 15 points.
Skryd provided 32 assists to surpass the 900 assist mark on the season, and led the Chants with 17 digs.
It was very evenly contested match, though Coastal held slight advantages in both hitting percentage (.192-.158) and team blocks (7-6).
Coastal won the first set convincingly, holding High Point to a .047 hitting percentage and receiving 11 kills between Hardeman, Legros, Martin and Eszter Nagy. The second set was much the same, as Coastal grabbed the first point from a Miona Milovanovic kill, and held the lead for the remainder of the game.
Coming out of the break, High Point hit .200 as a team in the third set while limiting Coastal to just .088. Kristin Heldt, Megan Kennedy and Camryn Freiberg each had three kills for the Panthers, and a 6-4 run for High Point midway through the set led to a 25-18 set win.
The deciding set was the most tightly contested, as High Point held advantages in both hitting percentage and blocks. Hardeman proved to be the difference maker, however, putting down seven kills on 15 attempts and recording five digs. Martin also chipped in six kills as the Chants edged the Panthers to take the match.
