
Chants Open Big South Schedule at Radford

RADFORD, Va. - The Coastal Carolina women's basketball team begins its 2014-15 Big South Conference schedule on Saturday as the Chanticleers (5-2, 0-0) travel to Radford to take on the Highlanders (2-5, 0-1) at 4 pm inside the Dedmon Center.

Last Time Out
The Chanticleers passed the century mark for the second game this season as Coastal downed Johnson & Wales 113-34 last Thursday at The HTC Center. Led by the 26 points of Stephanie Isaacs, the Chants had six players finish in double digits in scoring including Alexis Robinson (15), AJ Jordan (14), Anna Vogt (13), Jas Adams (13) and Olivia Carlton (11). Vogt added a game-high 16 rebounds, and Robinson 13, to record their third and second double-doubles of the season, respectively. As a team, Coastal posted its second-highest field goal shooting percentage (.500) and highest 3-point shooting percentage (.393) of the season.
Coastal Carolina in Big South Openers
Coastal holds a 14-14 all-time record in Big South openers since joining the league prior to the 1986-87 season, and 7-10 all-time record in conference openers on the road. In last season's opener, Coastal received 24 points from Alexx Puckett and 23 from AJ Jordan as the Chants defeated Gardner-Web 85-63 at The HTC Center. Coastal's last conference opener on the road was in December of the 2012-13 season. The Chants edged Gardner-Webb 65-62.
Chanticleers versus Radford
Saturday's game marks the 60th all-time meeting between the Chants and Highlanders. Radford holds a 40-19 series advantage, including a 23-7 home record against Coastal. The Chants, however, have won two of the last three meetings between the teams, all of which were decided by one point. The last time the teams met, Radford's Ayana Avery hit a 3-pointer with 32 seconds remaining to clinch a 63-62 victory.
The Chants are 1-3 against the Highlanders in Big South openers, with all four games being played in Radford. The last time Coastal opened conference play against Radford was in 2008, with the Highlanders taking a 71-54 win.
Points in Bunches
The Chants have scored over 100 points twice this season, just the second time in CCU women's basketball history this has occurred. The 1982-83 squad put up 103 points against Morris College and 101 against Voorhees. The 2014-15 Chants also become the first Coastal women's team to score over 110 points in a game twice in one season.
The Chants currently lead the Big South and rank 16th nationally in scoring offense, averaging 82.6 points per game. Coastal is also 12th nationally in scoring margin with an average point differential of +24.6.
Strong on the Glass
Through seven games, Coastal is tied with Baylor for the Division I lead in defensive rebounds. The Chants and Bears are each averaging 35 defensive boards per game. Coastal also ranks fourth nationally in offensive rebounds averaging 21 per game, and the Chants' +20.6 rebounding margin is second nationally only to No. 13 Duke. Sophomore forward Alexis Robinson is 20th among all DI players in offensive boards per game (4.0) and 25th in defensive rebounds per game (8.0). Her 12.0 total rebounds per game lead the Big South. Junior forward Anna Vogt, meanwhile, is sixth in the Big South in total rebounds averaging 8.7 per game.
Scouting Radford
Radford is 0-1 this season against Big South opponents after falling to Liberty 72-63 at home last Saturday.
Avery is leading the Highlanders' offense averaging 10.0 points and 2.3 3-pointers per game. She is also Radford's most accurate shooter, going .407 from the floor and .348 from range.
Janayla White follows Avery with 7.9 points per game, while her 8.6 rebounding average leads Radford and ranks seventh in the Big South. She has also posted three blocks in back-to-back games, and is fifth in the league in that category averaging 1.86 per contest.
