CONWAY - Fueled by 42 total rebounds for a plus-13 advantage on the boards and nine 3-pointers the Coastal Carolina men's basketball team dispatched in-state foe South Carolina State 66-52 Tuesday evening inside The HTC Center.

Coastal's dominate performance on the glass was directed by Badou Diagne's 11-rebound effort, while Josh Cameron led the way in threes with four. Diagne also scored 14 points, marking his second double-double of the season. Cameron matched Diagne's scoring output with 14 of his own on 5-of-9 from the floor, including 4-of-6 from deep.

Coastal improved to 5-1 overall with the victory, while SC State dropped to 1-5. The teams will meet again on Dec. 14 in Orangeburg.

With Coastal leading 11-7, SC State's Gerdarius Troutman connected on a three to pull the Bulldogs with a point. However, Coastal's Cameron responded with a three of his own and after a defensive stop Diagne followed with his second thunderous dunk of the half to ignite a 16-8 Chanticleer run. Shivaughn Wiggins capped the scoring outburst with a triple from the left wing, giving Coastal a 12-point lead at 30-18 with 3:27 to play before the half.

Warren Gillis scored a floater in the lane and Tristian Curtis counted a free throw to conclude Coastal's scoring for the half. SC State's Greg Mortimer made a pair at the line and Tashombe Riley scored on a tip-in to cut Coastal lead to 33-26 at the intermission.

SC State's 26 points at the half marked the sixth time in the season's opening seven games that the Chants had held its opponents to less than 30 first-half points.

The opening 10 minutes of the second half turned into a 3-point shooting contest with SC State connecting on five from deep and the Chants three. Each time the Bulldogs cut Coastal's lead to a single possession, the white-clad Chanticleers answered with a trey to keep SC State at bay.

Coastal led 45-40 when Cameron hits his first 3-pointer of the second half with 10:54 to play. Cameron then connected on two more threes and converted a fast-break layup during a three minute stretch to outscore the Bulldogs 11-6 and push the Chants back out to a 10-point lead at 56-46 with 7:39 to play.

SC State cut Coastal lead to eight at 58-50 with an alley-oop by Ty Soloman to Darryl Palmer, but the Chants clamped down defensively and took advantage of four Bulldog turnovers during the next minute to stretch the lead back to double-figures.

The Bulldogs would get no closer through the late stages of the game as Coastal closed the contest on a 6-0 run to provide the 66-52 final.

Coastal finished the contest connecting on 24-of-49 attempts for a 49.0 field goal percentage, while SC State was 17-of-55 (30.9 percent) from the floor. The Chanticleers also outscored the Bulldogs 24-10 in the paint.

Coastal next travels to SEC foe Auburn on Friday, Dec. 5 for an 8:00 p.m. (CT) tipoff. The game can be viewed live on FSN - South.
