CONWAY - The Coastal Carolina softball team scored five runs in its last two turns at-bat and pulled away for a 7-2 Big South Conference victory over Charleston Southern on Wednesday.

The Chanticleers (30-13, 12-3) scored five of their runs in the game with two outs on RBI hits from four different players en route to completing a sweep of the regular-season series with the Buccaneers (20-29-1, 6-11). Coastal also reached the 30-win mark for the third straight season.

Kory Hayden and Morgan Noad each had two hits and two RBIs, while Bri Chiusano added two hits and three runs scored for the Chants, who totaled nine hits, including six for extra bases, against three Charleston Southern pitchers.

Ashley Bagwell(12-7) pitched six innings to notch her 55th career victory, one shy of tying for third in program history. She allowed two runs on six hits, didn't strikeout a batter, but walked only one and held the Buccaneers off the board in her final three innings of work.

Coastal took a 2-0 lead in the first inning on back-to-back two-out RBI doubles by Amanda Daneker and Hayden. Chiusano drew a leadoff walk, moved to second on a sacrifice and went to third on a groundout. Daneker and Hayden then laced doubles to right-center.

Charleston Southern cut the deficit in half in the second, using a pair of hits, including a double by Natalie Yonan. However, the Chants were able to cut down a second potential run at the plate as Daneker took the relay throw from Jessie Winans and made a swipe tag on the runner trying to score from first.

The Buccaneers were able to tie it at 2-2 in the third on a leadoff home run to right-center by Stephanie Bergman.

However, Coastal regained the lead with three runs on four hits in the fifth. Chiusano beat out a chopper to the pitcher for a hit and stole second. After Kiana Quolas walked, Noad hit a long single off the fence in right-center to score Chiusano. Two batters later, and after CSU made a pitching change, Hayden lined her second double of the game down the right-field line to plate pinch-runner Katie Kalasunas with two outs. Brooke Donovan followed with an RBI single to center that made it 5-2.

Bagwell had retired nine straight batters entering the sixth, but CSU got a pair of singles to put runners on first and second. Hayden, though, made a nice pickup on a grounder and turned it into a routine double play to end the threat.

The Chants then tacked on their final two runs in the bottom of the inning. Maicie Hahn led off by hustling for a double - CCU's fourth of the game - on a blooper down the right-field line. She then stole third and scored on a wild pitch. Chiusano followed immediately with a triple to right-center - her fourth of the season - and scored on a ground-rule double to left by Noad.

Daneker, Chiusano and Donovan each extended their hitting streaks to eight, seven and six games, respectively.

Quolas came on to finish the game in the seventh and struck out three batters around an infield single. Jennifer Giles started for CSU and took the loss, allowing five runs on four hits in 4.2 innings.

The Chanticleers will now prepare for their final home series of the season on Friday and Saturday as they face Longwood in a showdown for first place. Friday's doubleheader is scheduled for 4 p.m., with Saturday's finale set for 1 p.m. Coastal will also honor its six seniors prior to Saturday's game.
