Final Stats

MYRTLE BEACH - All the action in Coastal Carolina's 3-0 win versus College of Charleston came in the fourth inning Tuesday evening at TicketReturn.com Field at Pelicans Ballpark.

The Chanticleers (21-21) had all three of their hits and scored all three of their runs in the decisive frame while both of the Cougars' (27-13) errors came in the inning as well.

Connor Owings and Michael Paez started the home half of the fourth with singles. Tyler Chadwick followed with a sacrifice bunt. There were two throwing errors on the play - one by the catcher to first and one by the right fielder back to home. The first error allowed Owings and Paez to score from second and first, respectively. The second CofC error moved Chadwick to third. G.K. Young was hit by a pitch to put runners on the corners. Two batters later, Kyle Jackson laid down a perfect bunt between the Cougar's pitcher and first baseman for an RBI single, plating Chadwick.

The College of Charleston only managed three hits for the game - one in the third inning, one in the sixth and one in the ninth - and only one Cougar advanced past second base in Coastal's second shutout in three games. The Chanticleers turned double plays in the sixth and eighth innings to offset two walks.

Chanticleer freshman Dalton Moats (1-3) earned his first collegiate win. He pitched a predetermined four innings, allowing one hit and one walk with two strikeouts. Cole Schaefer worked the fifth and sixth innings, allowing one hit and one walk with two strikeouts. Brock Hunter pitched two scoreless, allowing a walk, and Tyler Poole closed the game, pitching the ninth. He earned his sixth save of the season, allowing one hit and one walk with a strikeout.

Cougar starter Nathan Helvey (3-4) was impressive despite getting the loss. He allowed the three hits and the three runs (one earned) with no walks and eight strikeouts. Blake Butler, Hunter Heidt and Bradley Jones each had a hit for CofC.

Coastal Carolina, winners of four straight overall, improve to 18-16 all-time versus the College the Charleston.

The Chanticleers have 14 games left in the 2014 regular season with the next 11 contests being played on the road, starting with a three-game set at Gardner-Webb this Friday.
