CONWAY - The goal of the 2013-14 Coastal Carolina University women's basketball team under first-year head coach Jaida Williams was to change the program's culture and implement "The Blueprint" of winning. While the Chanticleers' overall record may have only improved by a game, Williams dramatically altered the direction of the women's basketball program for the better.
Coastal Carolina finished the season 15-16 overall and 10-10 in Big South Conference play. The Chants closed the regular season with a 14-15 overall mark, earning the No. 6 seed in the 2014 VisitMyrtleBeach.com Big South Basketball Championship. In the tournament, Coastal defeated No. 11 seed Charleston Southern 106-71 before falling to eventual champion Winthrop in the quarterfinal round.
In 2013-14, Williams engineered a seismic shift in the program behind the highest scoring offense in school history fueled by an up-tempo attack, as well as an aggressive, rebounding philosophy. Along the way, the Chanticleers set a slew of school records and earned a number of awards and honors.
Highlights from the Chanticleers' 2013-14 season:
• Program record for total points with 2,230
• Program record for scoring average with 71.9 points per game
• Program record for total rebounds with 1,287
• Second on the CCU all-time list with 807 total field goals
• Second on the CCU all-time list with an average of 41.5 rebounds per game
• Second on the CCU all-time list with a free throw percentage of 74.2
• Third on the CCU all-time list with 164 made 3-pointers
• Set program record for margin of victory in a regular season conference game with a 30-point win at Longwood (83-53)
• Set program record for margin of victory in a Big South Tournament game with a 35-point win over Charleston Southern (106-71)
• Set program record for best start to conference play with a 4-0 record
• Tied the 1993-94 team for the most conference wins in program history with 10 • Set the Big South Tournament record with 106 points against Charleston Southern
• Tied the Big South Tournament record for points in a half with 54 first-half points against Charleston Southern
• Set the Big South Tournament record with a 63.3 shooting percentage (38-of-60) against Charleston Southern
• Angelica Henry recorded the first triple-double in program history with 30 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists in the opening round of the Big South Tournament against Charleston Southern
• Angelica Henry, Alexx Puckett and AJ Jordan became the first trio of teammates to score 20-plus points in a Big South Tournament game
• Angelica Henry became the 12th Chanticleer to reach the 1,000 point mark, finishing her career with 1,021 points
• The Coastal backcourt of AJ Jordan, Angelica Henry and Karsen Sims earned All-Big South Conference recognition. Jordan was included on the All-Big South first team and All-Academic Team rosters, while Henry garnered honorable mention honors. Sims was named a member of the All-Freshman Team.
