Coastal Places Three in Main Singles Draw at ITA Regional

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The Coastal Carolina women's tennis team placed three of its student-athletes in the main singles draw at the ITA Carolina Regional on Thursday as Sara Bondar and Marie Babayan each defeated South Carolina players to earn a place in the draw with Libby Scott.
Babayan defeated South Carolina's Ali Mills in straight sets (6-4, 6-0) in qualifying, and will face Casandra Vasquez of North Carolina in the opening round of the main draw at noon on Friday.
Bondar topped Elon's Kamilla Beisenova in the first round of qualifying, 6-3, 6-2, before advancing to the main draw with a three-set (6-3, 4-6, 6-4) victory over Hannah Templeton of South Carolina. Bondar's first-round opponent in the main draw on Friday will be Andrea Retolaza of Wake Forest.
Scott did not have to go through qualifying to make the main draw, but will have to square off against top-seeded Hayley Carter of North Carolina at 1:30 p.m. on Friday.
In the doubles draw, the Chanticleer pair of Scott and Bondar bested UNC Greensboro's Soumeya Anane/Amy Ellis 8-4 after receiving a first-round bye. The duo will face South Carolina's Berg/Folland in Friday's round-of-16 match.
Coastal's second pairing of Babayan and Natalie Wall fell in the opening round to South Carolina's Cline/Rohrabacher.
