What's On The Line
The 2015 Chants are looking to set several more records in what has already been a historic season for the Coastal Carolina volleyball program.
- The program record for the best start to Big South play is 10-0, set in 1996. Coastal can surpass that with a pair of wins this weekend.
- The program record for longest winning streak was set at 12 matches in 2000. The Chants, winners of their last 10, can match that mark with a pair of wins this weekend.
- Coastal has won its last 13 matches played at home, the longest streak since play began at The HTC Center in 2012.
- This year's team became the first in Coastal history to lose just one set through its first nine conference matches.
- Coastal has won its past six matches in straight sets, the longest shutout streak in program history.
More importantly, a pair of wins would give Coastal a firmer hold on first place in the conference with just three matches remaining after this weekend. High Point's loss to Coastal on Oct. 2 is its only defeat in conference play, and puts the Panthers in a close second in the Big South standings. The two sides face each other in the regular season finale in High Point, N.C. on Nov. 14.
Coastal's Seniors
Saturday's home match will be the last for seniors Nagy and Bernett. The pair were instrumental in helping the Chants capture the 2014 Big South Championship, and each have left their respective marks in the Coastal Carolina record book.
To date, Lian Bernett has played 425 sets in 117 matches, 111 of which she started. Her Big South All-Freshman Team selection in 2011 was followed by second team All-Big South honors as a redshirt sophomore in 2013. Last weekend, Bernett became the 10th Chanticleer in program history to surpass 1,000 kills, and her 1,005 career kills as of now puts her 10th all-time in Coastal history. She has also recorded 995 career digs, and has an opportunity to become just the sixth player in Coastal history to reach 1,000 career kills and digs.
Eszter Nagy is having a phenomenal senior season, and currently ranks second among all NCAA Division I players with a .459 hitting percentage. She is also ninth in the Big South in kills per set (2.52) and eighth in points per set (3.12), while leading the Chants with 52 total blocks.
Nagy was a Big South All-Freshman and All-Tournament selection in 2012, and was named first team All-Big South as a junior in 2014. She currently holds the all-time Coastal Carolina record with a .355 career hitting percentage.
