CONWAY - The Coastal Carolina volleyball team tied the program record for consecutive wins on Saturday, claiming its 12th straight victory in a 3-0 (25-17, 25-12, 25-11) blanking of Presbyterian at The HTC Center.
It was the last home game of the season for the Chanticleers, and last in the careers of seniors Eszter Nagy and Lian Bernett. Coastal closes its home schedule with a perfect 8-0 record this season while surrendering just two sets. The Chants have now won 15 straight matches on their home court.
Coastal (19-4) improved its unblemished Big South mark to 11-0 with the win, marking the best start to conference play in program history. Presbyterian, meanwhile, falls to 3-22, 1-10 with the loss.
The match featured just one tie and one lead change as Coastal stayed in front for the first two sets. PC won the opening point of the third set before Coastal claimed the next four to remain ahead for good.
The Chants posted a team hitting percentage of .417, their second highest of the season. Coastal's season-high percentage of .455 came in its previous win over the Blue Hose on Sept. 26.
Coastal doubled Presbyterian in kills, 44-22, and out-blocked the Blue Hose 7-4.
Natasa Savovic led the match in kills, finding hardwood 12 times on 19 swings with just two errors for a .526 hitting percentage. Leah Hardeman followed with nine kills at a .471 clip.
Annayka Legros totaled four kills, two solos and two assists, while Hardeman posted three. Bernett and Carla Cahill each reached double figures in digs while Sara Boothe provided 30 assists.
The first set saw Coastal hit .344 and string together a 7-2 run that gave the Chants a sizeable 20-12 lead. Savovic notched seven of her kills in the opening frame.
Coastal's defense posted four blocks in the second set while limiting the Blue Hose to hitting -.129. Hardeman and Bernett combined for seven kills, and Boothe tallied five digs in addition to her setting duties. Coastal claimed the first seven points of the set on the serve of Hardeman before a service error put PC on the board.
The final set saw the Chants jump out to a 13-6 lead and ride a .625 hitting percentage to a 14-point set win.
Coastal takes to the road for its final three matches of the regular season. The Chants start the road swing with a trip to Charleston Southern on Nov. 6, followed by matches at Campbell (Nov. 13) and High Point (Nov. 14).
