Women's Tennis Announces Two Signees

CONWAY - Coastal Carolina head women's tennis coach Catherine Hewitt announced Wednesday that Rylie Cox (Rockwall, Texas/Rockwall HS) and Alexa Tiefel (Leawood, Kan./Blue Valley HS) have signed to join the Chanticleer women's tennis team.
"I am very excited to have both Rylie and Alexa join our Chanticleer family," said Hewitt. "Both of these future student-athletes bring a competitive edge that I have no doubt will help our program as we look to continue building on our recent success. They also possess great character and I look forward to being able to work with both of them in the coming seasons."
Cox comes to Coastal Carolina from Rockwall, Texas, where she attended Rockwall High School. She did not compete at her school, however, instead playing at Brookhaven Tennis Academy in Dallas under coach Dave Anderson. Cox has been a finalist and first place finisher in both singles and doubles in the Texas Super Champ tournaments; placed third at the World Team Tennis championships in California; finished fifth at a national doubles tournament in North Carolina; and placed first at the Texas Team Prince Championship.
Cox has been ranked as high as No. 77 by Tennis Recruiting for the graduating class of 2016, and is also ranked in the top 10 in the state of Texas.
Tiefel, a native of Leawood, Kan., finished her fourth year of 6A varsity tennis with a career record of 122-9 in singles. As a senior, Tiefel was crowned the champion of the 6A Eastern Kansas League and 6A regional tournaments, while finishing fifth at the Kansas state championship. Tiefel has been named a Kansas City Star High School Athlete of the Week in each of the last three years.
Tiefel is ranked second in the state of Kansas and 133rd nationally by Tennis Recruting, and has been ranked in the top 10 in her age division in the Missouri Valley Region since she began competing in USTA tournaments at the age of eight.
