Women's Basketball Set for San Juan Shootout

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico - The Coastal Carolina women's basketball team closes out the first month of the 2015-16 season this weekend as the Chanticleers take on Sacred Heart (Nov. 27) and Hofstra (Nov. 28) as part of the San Juan Shootout.

Coastal Carolina vs. Sacred Heart / Hofstra
This weekend marks the first time Coastal Carolina will face both of these opponents. Sacred Heart, a member of the Northeast Conference, enters the game with an 0-3 record. Hofstra, meanwhile, has enjoyed a great start to its season and enters the San Juan Shootout unbeaten at 4-0.
Last Time Out
Coastal rebounded from its first loss of the season with an 86-45 win at home against Allen University last Sunday. Rachael Gregory (17 points) led Coastal in scoring for the third time this year, and has now reached double figure in all four of Coastal's games this season.
Jas Adams finished with 10 rebounds for the second time this season (also at Clemson) and leads the team in the category averaging 7.8 boards a night.

Coastal's games against Sacred Heart and Hofstra close out the month of November. The Chants begin the second month of the season at home hosting its first Big South Conference opponent, Campbell. Opening tip at The HTC Center is set for 3 p.m. on Dec. 1. Coastal split its pair of games against Campbell last season as the home team recorded the win in each contest.
Puerto Rico So Far...
The team landed in San Juan Tuesday afternoon and had its first practice in Puerto Rico in the evening. After returning to the hotel the players were free to explore the city and try some of the local food.
After breakfast on Wednesday morning, the team loaded onto the bus and headed off to El Yunque National Forest, a 29,000 acre rainforest in the middle of the island that features over a dozen different hiking trails. A quick stop at the visitor's center was followed by a two mile hike through the rainforest that included plants, wildlife and a stop at one of the many waterfalls for a quick swim. The trip ended with a climb up 98 steps to the top of an observational tower where, at an elevation of 1,575 feet, you could see the eastern coast of Puerto Rico and much of the surrounding rain forest.
Thursday morning included a quick practice, followed by a Thanksgiving team lunch at the hotel. The lunch included turkey with sides of rice and beans and sweet mashed potatoes, followed by ice cream for dessert. Several of the student-athlete's families had made the trip to Puerto Rico, so the players had the entire afternoon off to enjoy the rest of Thanksgiving.
