Chanticleers Welcome Auburn to HTC Center Wednesday

CONWAY - Coastal Carolina men's basketball welcome Southeastern Conference member Auburn into the HTC Center Wednesday evening for a 7 p.m. tipoff. The Chanticleers (3-3) defeated Auburn (3-1) 58-54 at the Tigers' home arena last season.

Last Time Out
• D.J. Mason led four Campbell players in double figures with a season-high 17 points and the Camels defeated two-time defending Big South champion Coastal Carolina 79-73 Saturday at Gore Arena.
• The Camels made 11-of-23 three-pointers (.478) on the day, 6-of-10 in the second half and overcame a 10-point deficit after the break. Coastal (3-3, 0-1) shot just 36 percent in the final period after making 60 percent in the opening period to take a 41-35 lead into the dressing room.
• Shivaughn Wiggins led Coastal Carolina with his CCU career-high 24 points on 8-of-12 from the floor, plus 7-of-11 from the line, while dealing seven assists with no turnovers. Elijah Wilson added 11 points and Badou Diagne 10 for Coastal.
The Series vs. Auburn
• Coastal Carolina and Auburn have only met twice on the basketball court with the Tigers winning in 1995 and the Chanticleers last season.
• The teams' first meeting on Dec. 17, 1995, in Auburn current Chanticleer head coach Cliff Ellis, who was in his second as Auburn's head coach at the time, directed the Tigers to a 82-66 win.
• Last season's game, which happened to fall on Ellis' 69th birthday, the Chanticleers got jumpers from Badou Diagne and Warren Gillis in the final minute to secure the 58-54 comeback win over Auburn.
Coach Ellis vs. Auburn
• Head coach Cliff Ellis is 3-0 all-time against Auburn. Not only did Ellis guide the Chanticleers to a victory over the Tigers last season; he led South Alabama to a 95-73 victory during the 1983 Colonial Classic in Mobile, Ala. Ellis' second win against Auburn came by way of a 84-72 decision on March 18, 1993 as the head coach of Clemson.

• The Chanticleers step back into Big South Conference play on Sunday as they welcome the Highlanders of Radford to the HTC Center for a 2 p.m. tipoff. Coastal bested Radford, which has wins over Georgetown and Penn State this season, 65-59 in the teams' only meeting last year.
Wiggins Returns in Big Way
• After missing two games due to injury, junior point guard Shivaughn Wiggins returned to the floor this past week and did not disappoint in games at College of Charleston and Campbell. He averaged 18.5 points, made 60.0 of his shots from the floor and dished out 11 assists against only three turnovers.
• Wiggins returned action at College of Charleston where he made 4-8 shots and 5-8 free throws on his way to 13 points. He also notched four assists and made four free throw in the final 52 second to salt away the 67-61 CCU victory.
• He then scored his most points in a Chanticleer uniform with 24 against Campbell. Wiggins shot 66.7 percent (8-12) from the floor against the Fighting Camels. He also tied his career-high with seven assists, while not turning the ball over in his game-high 38 minutes on the floor.
Wilson Joins The 1,000-Point Club
• Elijah Wilson became the 20th member of Coastal Carolina's 1,000 point club with 3-pointer at the 17:16 mark of the second half at Campbell on Nov. 28, 2015.
• Wilson, who has reached double-figures in 58 games, has scored 1,005 points in his 74 career games for a 13.6 points per game average.
• Wilson played with Coastal's most recent 1,000-point scorer in 2015 graduate Warren Gillis. Wilson shared the court with Gillis (1,352 points) during both the 2013-14 and 2014-15 seasons.
• Wilson will need to score 347 more points to reach the CCU all-time top-10 career scoring list.
• At his current pace of 461 points per season, Wilson would finish his career with more than 1,800 points.
Curtis Making His Shots Count
• Senior forward Tristian Curtis has made the most of his shot selection this season as the Bohemian is shooting a team-high 87.5 percent from the floor. Curtis has made 14 of his 16 attempts through five games. He had a miss each against Grace Bible and College of Charleston with both rimming out after entering the cylinder. His accuracy also led to a career-high 14 points against Grace Bible (Nov. 18).
Ellis Approaching 700 Club
• Chanticleer head man Cliff Ellis is quickly approaching one of the great milestone in college basketball ... 700 wins as a Division I coach. Ellis, who has 773 wins including his three seasons at Cumberland College, is five wins short of 700 as a NCAA Division I head coach. Ellis will be the 39th coach in NCAA Division I history to reach the 700 win plateau (see complete list on page 4). Ellis won 171 games at South Alabama, 177 at Clemson, 186 at Auburn and has chalked up 161 victories at Coastal Carolina to total his current 695 wins.
Lending The Helping Hand
• Redshirt sophomore Jaylen Shaw has had no problem sharing the basketball this season. He has created numerous open shot for his teammates and dished out 29 assists through five games. He had eight helpers each against Grace Bible and Piedmont International. His 29 assists ranks 28th in the NCAA, while his 5.4 per game average ranks 65th.
• Shaw is not the only Chanticleer willing to pass the ball as both Colton Ray-St Cyr and Shivaughn Wiggins have each recorded seven assist games. Ray-St Cyr helped on seven baskets against Grace Bible (Nov. 18), while Wiggins notched seven assists at Campbell (Nov. 28).
