Women's Basketball Hosts Campbell Tuesday in Conference Opener

CONWAY - The Coastal Carolina women's basketball team faces its first Big South Conference opponent of the season on Tuesday as the Chanticleers host Campbell for a 3 p.m. game at The HTC Center.

Last Time Out
The Chants closed the first month of the season in Puerto Rico as Coastal took part in the San Juan Shootout over Thanksgiving break. Coastal fell in both of its games, suffering a 71-62 loss to Sacred Heart on Friday before being bested 82-40 by Hofstra on Saturday.
Ced Gibson and Yasmin Miller combined to lead the Chants in scoring against Sacred Heart with 13 points each, and Gibson reached that same total against Hofstra to once again lead Coastal in the category. Jas Adams had a game-high six rebound against Sacred Heart, and remains the team's leader on the boards averaging 6.5 rebounds per game.
Coastal vs. Campbell
Tuesday's game marks the 40th all-time meeting between the Chants and Fighting Camels, with Campbell holding a 22-18 series advantage. The two schools met for the first time in 1986-87, with Campbell taking a 78-56 victory. Coastal is 11-10 all-time versus Campbell in Conway, and is 1-1 against the Camels in The HTC Center.
The school's split last year's pair of games with the home side taking the win in each meeting. This is the first time the two teams will meet in a Big South Conference opening game.
A Look at Campbell
The Fighting Camels enter Tuesday's game with a 3-2 record after having its three-game winning streak snapped last Tuesday at VCU. Campbell is a strong team defensively as the Camels rank second in the Big South in scoring defense, holding teams to 56.0 points per game.
Amanda Coffer leads Campbell averaging 7.4 rebounds and 2.8 blocks per game, which is first in the Big South. Coffer registered double-doubles in three of Campbell's first four games, and is second on the team in scoring averaging 11.2 ppg.
RaeChaun Edwards is the only other Camel to average double figure points, and leads the team in scoring with 13.4 ppg.
Coastal in Big South Openers
Coastal holds a 15-14 all-time record in Big South openers since joining the league for the 1986-87 season, and is 7-4 in conference openers played in Conway.
The Chants won last year's conference debut at Radford, topping the Highlanders 75-42. Gibson (13 points) and Adams (12) finished second and third on the team in scoring, respectively, while Gibson added a team-high five assists and eight rebounds.
The Month Ahead
Coastal enters the second month of the season sitting in fifth place in the Big South with a 3-3 record. First-year Chants Rachael Gregory (13.5 ppg) and Yasmin Miller (10.0 ppg) lead Coastal in scoring, while sophomore guard Jas Adams (6.5 rpg) paces the Chants on the boards.
The Chants will remain in the Conway/Myrtle Beach area until their final game of the month at Radford on Dec. 29. Coastal opens December with three straight home games -- including two against BSC opponents Campbell and Asheville -- before taking on Wake Forest at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center as part of the CresCom Bank Carolina's Challenge. The Chants then host Wofford for a 2 p.m. game on Dec. 21 before going into the Christmas break.
