CONWAY - The Coastal Carolina women's soccer team will continue its quest for a Big South Championship title Friday night when they face off against Campbell. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Bryan Park in Greensboro, N.C.
The second-seeded Chanticleers (12-6-1) are coming off a two-game win streak scoring total of eight goals in just those two games which included a 5-0 quarterfinal win versus Charleston Southern. Third-seeded Campbell (13-6-0) is coming off a three win streak featuring a 1-0 win over UNC Asheville in its Big South quarterfinal game.
This will be the first time these two teams have met in post season play. Campbell won the regular season matchup between the teams 1-0 on Oct. 13th with a first half goal. Coastal held an 18-9 shot advantage in the contest, but came up short in the second half. With that win, Campbell tied the overall series between the two 5-5.
Offensively, both teams have strong weapons in the front line. For Coastal, Kayla Christian the Big South Freshman of the Year, has tacked on a tied team high of nine goals along with teammate Daniella Famili. Junior Amber Adams, has also sparked the offense recording seven goals, all which were scored in conference play. For Campbell, Ashley Clark who was named the Big South Attacking Player of the Year, leads the conference in every category. Overall, Clark has scored 15 goals throughout the 2015 season while tallying seven in league play. Out of the 19 games Campbell has played, Clark has recorded either a goal or an assist in 15 of them.
Campbell will be chasing its first Big South Championship title since 1993. Their last championship appearance was in 2011 placing as the runner-up to Radford. The Chanticleers will be seeking its first ever Big South Championship title this weekend. Coastal has only made two championship appearances in program history in 2007 and 2008.
Top-seed Liberty (11-7-1) and No. 4 seed High Point (12-4-4) will meet in Friday's first semifinal match at 4:00 p.m. The Coastal-Campbell game will follow starting at 7 p.m. The winners will then play for the Big South championship and an NCAA Tournament berth on Sunday at 2 p.m. Tickets are $5 per day and are available only at the Bryan Park ticket office.
