Dec. 15, 2015 2015 STATS FCS All-American Football Team
CONWAY - After setting records this past season, Coastal Carolina running back De'Angelo Henderson and kick returner Devin Brown were each named to the 2015 STATS FCS All-American team.
The pair brings Coastal's total to 22 All-Americans since starting the program in 2003 and a Chanticleer has earned postseason recognition in 11 of CCU's 13 seasons of football.
Henderson, a second team selection, set the NCAA FCS record by scoring a touchdown in 26 consecutive games while Brown, a third team selection, set the Big South career record with five career kick returns for touchdowns, one shy of the NCAA FCS all-time mark.
De'Angelo Henderson was the 2015 Big South Offensive Player of the Year and a National Offensive Player of the Year finalist. The Summerville native ranks sixth in the FCS in scoring (9.5 ppg), seventh in rushing touchdowns (16), ninth in rushing yards (1,346) and 14th in all-purpose yards (145.75 ypg). Henderson was the only NCAA FCS running back to have 1,000 rushing yards and have 400 receiving yards in 2015, while his 40 receptions rank fifth-most by NCAA FCS running backs. Henderson produced eight 100-yard rushing games and one 100-yard receiving game (to become the only Big South running back to accomplish the feat -- 129 at Furman). In the four games he did not rush for 100, Henderson had 95 at Furman (6.3 average), 91 at Monmouth (3.6 average), 90 at Charleston Southern (6.0 average) and 89 at Liberty (8.1 average).
In just two seasons as a starter (three overall), Henderson ranks among the Big South all-time leaders in rushing yards (3rd), attempts (6th), rushing TDs (3rd), yards per carry (2nd), yards per game (9th), 100-yard rushing games (3rd) and is the Big South all-time leader for receptions and receiving yards by a running back. In the CCU record book, Henderson is the school's all-time leader in rushing yards (3,479), rushing attempts (538), average yards per rush (6.47) and all-purpose yards (4,210) while ranking second in rushing TDs (42), second in total touchdowns scored (46), third in scoring (278 points), fifth in total offense (3,479) and ninth in receptions (77).
Devin Brown, the Big South Special Teams Player of the Year, was named All-Big South for the third consecutive season, twice as a first team selection. The Charleston native ranks seventh in the NCAA FCS in kick returns (28.6 avg.) while his two kick returns for touchdowns rank second in the nation. Brown had two kick returns for TDs in the first three games of 2015 (South Carolina State kicked away from Brown in game two) thanks to a 100-yard return at Furman in the season opener and a 93-yard return versus Western Illinois in week three. Brown was named National and Big South Special Teams Player of the Week for his efforts. From week three through the conclusion of the regular season, there were three games opponents elected to kick away from Brown and two other contests that Brown only had one kick return attempt.
Brown, who was a Freshman All-American in 2013, is responsible for five of CCU's longest scoring plays and is Coastal Carolina's all-time leader in kick return yards (1,983), kick returns (74) and kick return average (26.80) while recording five of CCU's seven all-time kick returns for TDs. Brown additionally ranks eight in the CCU all-time list for all purpose yards (2,382). He ranks fourth on the Big South career list for kick return yards and sixth in kick returns.
