Chants Close Regular Season Thursday at Presbyterian

CONWAY - Coastal Carolina travels to Clinton, S.C., for a 7 p.m. matchup against Presbyterian College on Thursday. The Chanticleers enter their regular season finale as winners of their last four straight and six of the last seven.

Coastal Carolina Game Notes

Coastal Carolina vs. Presbyterian College
• Coastal Carolina and Presbyterian have met 21 times on the hardwood.
• CCU leads the series 15-6, including winning the last 11 meetings.
• The Chants are 7-2 at PC and have not lost in Clinton since Feb. 4, 2009, which was also the Blue Hose's last win in the series.
• Coach Ellis is 12-2 all-time against the Blue Hose with each game coming on the Chanticleers' sideline.
• The Chants defeated PC in Conway by a 63-52 final in the teams' first meeting of the season back on Jan. 24. CCU was led offensively by Josh Cameron's 16 points - 13 of which came in the second half. Also reaching double-figures were Warren Gillis (11), Badou Diagne (10) and Shivaughn Wiggins (10).

Last Time Out
• Coastal Carolina scored 10 of the game's final 16 points at the free-throw line to secure a 72-59 victory at Longwood Monday evening.
• Five Chants finished in double-figures as Coastal secured its 15th double-digit win of the season. Shivaughn Wiggins was the top scorer with 14 points, while Josh Cameron and Marcus Freeman each scored 13. Badou Diagne scored 11 points, while Elijah Wilson chipped in 10. Diagne was also the game's leading rebounder with 12, marking his ninth double-double of the season.

First Round Bye
• With its 12th Big South Conference victory of the season at Longwood on Monday, Feb. 23, Coastal Carolina secured a first round bye in next week's VisitMyrtleBeach.com Big South Basketball Championship. Along with Coastal, High Point and Charleston Southern have also secured byes. The top five teams in the final conference standings receive the first round byes and will not tipoff their tournaments until Friday, March 6.
• This marks the second consecutive season the Chanticleers have earned a bye in the tournament after claiming the No. 1 South seed last year.

Back-to-Back 20 Win Seasons
• With its 81-57 win over Campbell on Feb. 19 Coastal Carolina secured a 20-win season for the second time in as many years. The 20-win season marks the 12th in program history and the fourth under the direction of head coach Cliff Ellis. Prior to Ellis' arrival eight seasons ago, Coastal had managed only eight 20-win seasons in 32 years of hoops action.

Wilson Playing Well Off The Bench
• Sophomore guard Elijah Wilson was not in Coastal Carolina's starting lineup for the first time in his 62-game career against Campbell on Feb. 19 as he gave way to senior Josh Cameron on senior night. However, Wilson turned in his best performance of the season with 20 points off the bench. Wilson made eight of his 14 shot attempts, including 3-of-5 from 3-point range. He scored 17 points in the first half, making seven of his first 10 shots. He also grabbed five defensive rebounds and recorded two steals.
• Wilson also came off the bench at Longwood and scored 10 points in his 22 minutes. He made three of his five attempts, including two of four from deep. He also notched three rebounds to go with one assist and one steal.

From Downtown
• The Chanticleers have been HOT from long range over the past four games, making a combined 35-of-79 attempts for a 46.1 shooting percentage. Coastal started its hot streak with a season-high 13 against Liberty (Feb. 14) and followed with eight against both Radford (Feb. 16) and Campbell (Feb. 19). The Chants then added six more at Longwood (Feb. 23) on 15 attempts.
• The most impressive stretch of the three games came in the final seven minutes against Campbell. The Chants scored 21 of its final 23 points of the first half on seven threes. Warren Gillis, Elijah Wilson each hit a pair during the stretch, while Josh Cameron counted three.

Gillis to 11th on CCU Scoring List
• Guard Warren Gillis currently ranks as the 11th leading scorer Coastal Carolina basketball history.
• The senior has totaled 1,268 points in his 120 career games for a 10.5 point per game average.
• Gillis passed former teammate Kierre Greenwood (1,199) along with Robert Dowdell (1,202) and Brian Penny (1,208) on the career list with his 25-point performance at Charleston Southern on Feb. 11.
• Gillis will need to score 53 more points this season to reach the CCU top-10 career scoring list.

• In addition to nearing the top 10 on the CCU all-time scoring list, Warren Gillis has either already reached or will reach the top 10 in several other career categories.
• Game played: Currently third with 120
• Free throws made: Currently eighth with 282
• Free throw percentage: Current percentage of 83.9 is on pace to be third (two tied at 84.0 for first)
• Steals: Currently seventh with 157

• Coastal now turns its attention to the defense of its VisitMyrtleBeach.com Big South Championship. The Chanticleer have clinched a first round bye in the tournament and will learn their seeding along with potential opponents after the conclusion of Saturday's games.
