CONWAY - Fueled by a plus-23 rebounding margin that produced 27 second-chance points, Coastal Carolina overcame a 12-point second-half deficit to defeat High Point 65-60 Friday night in front of 2,655 spectators and a nationwide ESPNU audience.

The victory moved Coastal to 17-7 overall and 8-4 in Big South play. The Chanticleers are now part of a seven-way tie for first in the league standings with High Point, Gardner-Webb, Charleston Southern, Radford, UNC Asheville and Winthrop.

Senior Warren Gillis led Coastal in the scoring column with 17 points on five made field goals and a 7-of-7 effort at the free-throw line. Elijah Wilson chipped in 11 points, including two 3-pointers. Tristian Curtis led Coastal's rebounding efforts with nine as the Chants held a commanding 47-24 edge on the glass.

High Point (17-7, 8-4) was paced by Adam Weary and Big South Preseason Player of the Year John Brown with 19 and 18 points, respectively.

Coastal used a 19-7 run to overcome a 12-point deficit and tie the game at 49 with 6:49 to go. However, High Point responded immediately with a 7-0 run to regain the lead at 56-59 with 4:14 to play. The Panther run was highlighted by Brown's SportsCenter Top 10 worthy dunk.

Coastal's Elijah Wilson then drained a 3-pointer in transition to spark Coastal's game-clinching scoring streak. Gillis and Curtis combined for the next three points at the free-throw line. Gillis then produced a steal at mid-court on the Panthers' ensuing possession, raced down the floor and slammed home a one-handed dunk to give CCU a 57-56 lead - its first since holding a 3-2 advantage - with 2:18 to go.

Coastal closed the game out with defensive rebounding and free-throw shooting. The Chants prevented High Point from gathering an offensive board over the final two crucial minutes, while making 6-of-8 at the line.

Coastal led 8-7 after seven minutes of play before going cold from the field over the next five-plus minutes. High Point used a 10-0 run to create separation on the scoreboard during the Chanticleers' shooting woes. Wilson broke the Chants' drought with a pair of free throw and Marcus Freeman followed with a 3-point play the next time down the floor, cutting the Panthers' lead to 18-12.

The Panthers seized a 26-16 lead with 4:22 to go before the half with Brian Richardson's 3-pointer from the left corner. CCU's Ray-St Cyr answered Richardson with a trey of his own, cutting the Chants' deficit to seven. Coastal would cut the Panthers' lead to seven again a minute later on a Gillis jumper from the elbow. However, HPU's Weary responded with a 3-pointer before Freeman counted the final points of the half on a score in the lane, sending the teams into the locker room with the Panthers up 31-23.

The Chanticleers travel to in-state rival Charleston Southern for a key Big South matchup on Wed., Feb. 11. Tipoff at the Buccaneer's CSU Field House is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
