Women's Tennis Falls to Old Dominion 5-2

Blacksburg, Va. - The Coastal Carolina women's tennis team lost its first of two matches to be played in Blacksburg, Va., this weekend, falling 5-2 to Old Dominion in a neutral site match Saturday morning.
The Chanticleers fall to 1-2 with the loss, while Old Dominion improves to 3-2. Coastal plays the second match of the trip on Sunday against the 50th-ranked Virginia Tech Hokies at 11 a.m.
ODU started the match with a 1-0 advantage after taking two of the three doubles decisions.
The Chanticleer pair of Sara Bondar and Honami Yazawa fell 6-1 at No. 2, but the point was evened on the third court where Natalie Wall and Cari Berry posted a 6-3 win over Marijana Novakovic and Faith Atiso.
The doubles point was decided at No. 1, where the ODU duo of Botusharova/Vojcinakova edged Libby Scott and Romane Delay in a 6-3 match.
Old Dominion kicked off singles play with three straight wins to seal the match.
Vojcinakova topped Berry in straight sets at No. 3 to put the Monarchs up 2-0, and Novakovic furthered the lead at No. 4 with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Delay. ODU was awarded the match with its fourth point at No. 1, where Botusharova defeated Scott 6-2, 6-4.
Yazawa provided the Chants with their first point of the day, topping Rajkovic in a three-set battle, 4-6, 6-3, 10-7, at No. 2. Mila Majtan followed with a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Atiso on the sixth court.
"Hats off to Old Dominion, they have a strong squad and got off to a great start in doubles," said Chanticleer head coach Catherine Hewitt. "We came out flat footed and it took us a while to get into the match. Their high level of play challenged us and will only make us better as our season continues."
