MYRTLE BEACH - The Coastal Carolina men's golf program shot a final-round 295 to move up two spots and finish eighth with a score of 890 (298-297-295) in its own Myrtle Beach Golf Holiday General Hackler Championship, played at the par 72, 7,233-yard The Dunes Club.

North Florida, ranked 25th, shot a 1-under par 287 Tuesday to overtake 36-hole leader North Carolina State to win the 15-team, 54-hole event with a score of 3-under par 861 (279-295-287). The Wolfpack turned in a score of 14-over par 302 and finished runner-up with a three-round total of 873.

The Chanticleers defeated Big South foe Winthrop by six strokes, #42 East Tennessee State by 11 strokes and Big South member Charleston Southern by 22 strokes.

Individually, there was a three-way tie for first and no playoff was held. Joey Petronio (North Florida) moved up six spots thanks to a final-round 71 to share in the three-way tie at 212 (68-73-71). Winthrop's Zach Seabolt, ranked 34th nationally, had round of 67-73-72 for a 54-hole score of 4-under par 212. Iowa State's Nick Voke, who shot a course-record 65 in the second round, also had a three-round score of 212 (75-65-72).

Coastal Carolina was led by Alfredo Ruiz. The sophomore shot a 3-over 75 Tuesday and finished with a 5-over par score of 221 (72-74-75) to finish in a seven-way tie for 21st.

Andrew Dorn also posted a final round 75 and finished in a tie for 32nd with a 54-hole score of 223 (76-72-75). Ben Wheeler rebounded from his 79 in round two to shoot a 1-over par 73. He tied for 37th with a 54-hole score of 224 (72-79-73).

Olle Widegren posted the team's best score of the day, an even par 72, to move up 13 spots and finish in a tie for 49th (78-76-72=226). The sophomore holed out from the fairway in the par 4 16th hole for an eagle. He double bogeyed the 18th hole and then had bogeys on holes 1 and 2. However, Widegren posted birdies on holes 6 and 11 to get back to even par.

Rounding out Coastal's contingent was Harrison Frye, who shot a 230 (80-75-75) and tied for 61st. Three Chanticleers competed as individuals. Ryan Carpenter tied for 43rd (77-73-75=225), Peter Valasek tied for 53rd (74-77-76=227) and Josh Pisarri tied for 76th (79-78-81=238).

Coastal Carolina added a one-day event to its schedule and will travel to Duke on Mar. 20 to play in the Blue Devil Spring Shootout. The Chants will then travel to Awendaw to play in South Carolina's Hootie @Bulls Bay Mar. 29-31.
