2015 Bay Area Intercollegiate Day 1 Results
FAIRFAX, Calif. - Led by freshman Malene Krolboll Hansen's 1-over 143, Coastal Carolina women's golf is ninth after two rounds of play at the Bay Area Intercollegiate contested at the par-71, 6,050-yard Meadow Club in Fairfax, Calif.
The Chanticleers finished the first 36 holes of the 54-hole event 23-over par (297-294=591), but are just eight strokes back of fifth-place UC Riverside (583). Washington, the No. 1 team in the nation according to the latest Golfstat rankings, leads the 13-team field with a 13-under par score of 555 (280-275).
Coastal's Hansen used five birdies to combat a bogey and double-bogey for a 1-under 70 her first time around the course. She then posted a 2-over 73 during her second round. She enters the tournament's third round tied for 11th and seeking a third top-10 finish in her sixth event as a collegian.
Senior Frida Castillo and Lena Schaeffner are tied for 26th on the individual leaderboard with 5-over 147 totals. Castillo opened the event with a 77, but rebounded immensely well to card a career-low 70 her second time around the track. Her second-round 70 was fueled by four birdies and 11 pars. Schaeffner used rounds of 72 and 75 en route to her 147 total. She carded five birdies throughout the day.
Emee Herbert is tied for 51st overall with rounds of 78 and 76 for a 12-over 154 total. Bailey Cocca (78-77=155) is 59th overall.
Coastal ranked third in the field with 113 total pars and fourth in par-5 scoring, playing the holes even.
The Chants tee off on the final round of the tournament Tuesday morning.
