CONWAY - Sara Bondar of the Coastal Carolina women's tennis team has been named The Crons Brand Big South Freshman of the Week for matches played March 9-15, the conference announced today.
Bondar went undefeated in both singles and doubles as the freshman led the Chants to a 4-0 week. The Hungary native picked up her first two singles points on the third court at Western Carolina and Savannah State. Bondar then shifted to the fourth court where she tallied a three-set win at Georgia Southern before helping the Chants blank Big South opponent Longwood.
Bondar paired with Honami Yazawa to deliver No. 1 doubles wins at Western Carolina and Savannah State, and No. 2 doubles wins at Georgia Southern and versus Longwood.
The Chanticleers have won their past eight matches, during which time Bondar has tallied seven singles and six doubles victories.
The Big South weekly honor is the first for the freshman Chanticleer, and second for a women's tennis student-athlete this season. Libby Scott was previously named Big South Player of the Week.
Coastal is back in action this weekend as the Chants head to UNC Asheville on Saturday for an 11 a.m. match.
