ELON, N.C. - The Coastal Carolina women's lacrosse team found themselves trailing at halftime for the third consecutive game and failed to orchestrate a comeback as they lost to Elon by a score of 11-6 at Rhodes Stadium on Friday evening.
The Chants evened the score at three goals apiece late in the first half and again at four goals apiece out of the intermission but couldn't keep the momentum as they were outscored 7-2 in the game's final 25 minutes.
Elon outshot Coastal 23-13 and converted on 7 of 11 shots in the second half to take command of the game. The Phoenix were led by midfielders Kelsey Dupere and Stephanie Asher who scored four goals and three goals, respectively. With the hat trick, Asher pushed her season total to 20 goals.
Coastal was led by Keri White's two goals and also received contributions from Courtney Genovese, Sara Nolan, Gabby Vujanic and Jen Cosgrove, who each scored a goal. Genovese and Cosgrove, who has now scored two or more points in all four games this season, each added assists for the Chants.
The loss marked Coastal's third consecutive defeat and dropped the Chanticleers to 1-3 on the season. On the other hand, Elon got back on track after a 21-2 loss at North Carolina and improved to 4-3.
Coastal has a quick turnover before its next game with Delaware State coming to town. The game is scheduled for Sunday at 1 p.m. at the CCU Soccer Stadium.
