Chanticleers Complete Day One at Bill Carson Invitational

GREENVILLE, N.C. - Coastal Carolina finished day one at the second annual Bill Carson Invitational with the women currently in 5th-place (14 points) and the men in 2nd-place (29 points) at East Carolina University's Bate Foundation Track and Field Facility on Friday afternoon.

The meet is scored 10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1 for individual events and 10-8-6-5-4-3 for relays, with only the top relay from each team allowed to score.Also participating in the meet are Charlotte, High Point, South Carolina and UNC Wilmington.

For the Chanticleers, sophomore thrower Cari Pallini recorded a throw of 38.29 meters (125'7") in the women's discus, good for a fourth-place finish, while also competing in the women's hammer and finishing eighth after recording a distance of 40.31 meters (132'3"), good for a new personal-best.

Freshman Chloe White finished second in the women's javelin with a throw of 45.19 meters (148'3"), marking her fifth consecutive top-five finish and coming up just shy of her personal-best of 45.24 meters set last weekend. Also, fellow freshmen Marissa Cain, Courtney Hill and Courtney Claudfelter finished 10th, 11th and 12th in the event with marks of 32.92 meters (108'0"), 32.77 (107'6") meters and 30.36 meters (99'7").

On the men's side, senior Ryan Minor and freshman Zach Bolton placed fifth and seventh in the men's discus with throws of 41. 34 meters (135'7") and 39.60 meter (129'11"), respectively. Bolton's mark was good for a new personal best. Sophomore Nicholas Seabright, competing in his first meet of the season, also participated in the discus and finished 13th with a mark of 27.22 meters (89'4").

Minor and Bolton, along with freshman Bryan Zapata, also competed in the men's hammer throw and finished second, ninth and fifth with distances of 57.39 meters (188'3"), 37.09 meters (121'8") and 52.80 meters (173'3"), respectively. Minor and Bolton's throws were good for season-bests, while Zapata came up just short of his.

Robert Castellani finished third in the men's javelin after recording a throw of 54.24 meter (177'11") with Seabright right behind him in fourth and a distance of 52.00 meters (170'7").

The Chanticleers will wrap up the six-team invitational with Saturday's events, starting with the women's pole vault at 11 a.m. and concluding with the men's 4x400 meter relay at 4:50 p.m.
