GREENVILLE, N.C. - The Coastal Carolina track and field programs wrapped up the second annual Bill Carson Invitational with the men's team finishing fourth (124 points) and the women's team finishing third (108 points) at East Carolina's Bate Foundation Track and Field Facility on Saturday afternoon.
The day was highlighted by three wins on the women's side and 14 top-five finishes for the men's team.
Senior sprinter Alexander Hass turned in another stellar performance as he came up just .01 seconds shy of tying DeAndra Lipscomb's school record in the 400-meter dash. Hass ran a 47.03-second race and finished third in the event. He also ran in the 200-meter dash and placed fifth in the event. His time of 21.18 seconds tied Aubrey Lemon for the Coastal Carolina record. Last week at Auburn, Hass ran a wind-aided time of 20.99 seconds in the event.
Freshman sprinter Therius Styles notched another top-10 performance, the fifth of his young career, as he finished fifth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.73 seconds.
Desmond Wallace placed third in the men's 110-meter hurdles for the second consecutive week after running a 14.12-second race.
Additionally, senior runner Joseph Keitt finished third in the 800 meters after posting a time of 1:54.68 while also finishing second in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9:06.17.
Senior jumper Reggie Nelson matched his season-best performance turned in last weekend and finished second in the high jump with a mark of 2.15 meters (7'0.5"). Freshman Brandon Richardson placed fifth with a personal-best mark of 2.00 meters (6'6.75").
Mark Stembridge placed tied for second in the long jump after posting a mark of 6.81 meters (22'4.25"), while Derrick Kinloch, Jr. and Christopher Christie, competing in his first event of the season, finished third and fifth in the triple jump with distances of 14.51 meters (47'7.25") and 13.29 meters (43'7.25"), respectively.
Throwers Ryan Minor and Zach Bolton came off yesterday's performances and placed fourth and fifth in today's shot put. Minor posted a mark of 15.14 meters (49'8.25"), while Bolton was just behind him with a distance of 14.52 meters (47'7.75"). Both marks were good for season bests.
Lastly, the men's 4x400-meter relay team of Jerome Coaxum Jr., Hass, Styles and Deion Wellington ran a season-best time of 3:12.42 and finished second in the event.
On the women's side, sophomore Imani Boatwright took home the individual title in the 800 meters with a time of 2:11.73, nearly four seconds faster than she had previously clocked. Aynslee van Graan finished just behind Boatwright in third place after running a time of 2:12.72.
In the women's 100-meter hurdles, the Coastal Carolina trio of Jessica Gelibert, Christina Davis and Camille Hurley finished third, fourth and fifth to earn a combined 15 points for the team. Gelibert's time of 13.59 seconds set a new school record, breaking LeAuna Sistrunk's time of 13.67 from 2007. Davis and Hurley each ran personal-best times of 13.76 and 13.83, respectively.
Gelibert then won the 400-meters hurdles with a season-best time of 58.48 seconds. Davis and Olivia Coopwood came in behind Gelibert at fourth and fifth place with times of 1:01.97 and 1:03.13, respectively.
Hurley and Davis then turned around to finish fourth and fifth in the 400-meter dash with times of 54.86 seconds and 55.52 seconds, respectively. Hurley's time was good for a new personal best.
Senior runner Letitia Saayman became the third Chanticleer to win an individual event in the meet after running a time of 9:42.78 in the women's 3,000-meter run, a new personal best for the South African.
Junior jumper and last week's Big South Field Athlete of the Week Amirah Al-Bayyinah placed fourth in the long jump with a mark of 5.62 meters (18'5.25").
Additionally, the women's 4x100 meter relay team of Ruby Durham, Kelila Naules, Teka Simpson and Symphony Thompson ran a season-best time of 45.52 seconds and finished second in the event.
