CONWAY - Libby Scott of the Coastal Carolina women's tennis team has been named the Big South Player of the Week for matches played April 6-12, the league announced today.
Scott's weekly award announcement comes just a day after being named an All-Big South Singles selection and the conference's No. 1 Singles Flight Champion. The junior also just missed out on earning Player of the Year honors despite finishing the conference schedule with a perfect 9-0 singles record and defeating the eventual award winner, Marketa Placha of Charleston Southern.
The Player of the Week honor is the third of the season for Scott, who is also a three-time All-Big South Singles selection.
Scott led Coastal in singles last week with a pair of wins at No. 1 as the Chants claimed a share of the Big South Conference regular season title. Her first singles win came in a three-set match against Placha, followed by a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Presbyterian's Brittany Nuttal in Coastal's regular season finale. In doubles, Scott paired with freshman Sara Bondar to secure an 8-4, No. 1 victory for the Chants at PC.
Scott and the Chants begin play in the quarterfinal round of the Big South Championship hosted by UNC Asheville on Thursday with a noon match. Coastal will face the seventh-seeded Radford Highlanders, who won Wednesday's first round match over No. 10 Longwood by a 4-0 margin.
The Chants and Highlanders met on March 29 in the regular season with the Chants taking a 6-1 victory. Fans can follow Thursday's quarterfinal match and all Big South Men's and Women's Tennis Championship action HERE.
