CONWAY - Wednesday's men's tennis match between Coastal Carolina and Radford at the Coastal Carolina Tennis Complex was called a no decision after rain and wet court conditions prevented the match from being played. Almost simultaneously, the Big South Conference announced senior Chanticleer Philippe Tsangarides as its men's tennis Player of the Week for matches played April 6-12.
The weekly honor is the first for a Coastal men's tennis student-athlete this season, and second for Tsangarides in his Chanticleer career. The Player of the Week honors were swept by Chanticleers this week as Libby Scott received the same award for the women's side.
Tsangarides finished last week with a perfect 4-0 record playing at No. 1 singles and doubles. He began the week in singles with a 6-2, 6-2 victory in Coastal's win over Campbell, followed by a three-set win against Winthrop to help the Chants clinch at least a share of the Big South regular season championship. In doubles, Tsangarides paired with fellow senior Kaue Pereira to take victories against both Campbell and Winthrop. The Coastal duo wraps up regular season play with a perfect 7-0 record against conference opponents.
Wednesday's match was scheduled as Coastal's senior day, and the three Chanticleer seniors of Tsangarides, Pereira and Garik Yedigarian were honored prior to an attempted start of the match in the morning.
Coastal's match versus Radford will not be played as the men's Big South Championship hosted by UNC Asheville begins on Saturday, April 18. The Chanticleers close the regular season with an 11-5, 6-1 record. The Big South will announce its final seedings for the Big South Championship later on Wednesday.
