NINETY-SIX - The Coastal Carolina men's golf team shot a 7-under par 281 in the first-round - which began Sunday and completed Monday morning - for a two-stroke lead then shot a 4-under par 284 Monday afternoon to expand its advantage to four strokes and lead the 2015 Big South Championship with a 36-hole score of 11-under par 565. The event is being played at the par 72, 7,120- yard The Patriot Club at Grand Harbor.

The 565, two-round total is the 10th-best, 36-hole score in school history and the program's third-best two-round total at the Big South Championship. The Chanticleers' first-round score of 281 tied for the program's best single-round score at the Championship, equaling a 281 recorded in 2002.
"Our ball striking was very solid and the obvious result was eight of the 10 round played being par of better among our five players," said head coach Kevin McPherson. "Everyone made a contribution and we played with a lot of confidence."
Coastal Carolina leads second place Liberty (286-283=569; -7) by four strokes, followed by Gardner-Webb (572; -4), Winthrop (573; -3) and Charleston Southern (575; -1).
Individually, Coastal Carolina has four players among the top 20. Andrew Dorn is one of six players tied for second and one stroke off the lead. The senior shot an opening round 70 and backed that up with a 69 for a 36-hole total of 5-under par 139. Dorn was able to climb the leaderboard thanks to playing the par 5's at 6-under par. Overall, Dorn only had three bogeys with eight birdies. Tow start rounds one and two, Dorn started on the par 5, 5th hole and birdies the 560-yard hole both times. He additionally birdied the par 5, 18th hole in rounds one and two.
Alfredo Ruiz posted his best 36-hole score of his two-year year by five strokes. The sophomore is in 10th place after shooting 70-71 for a 36-hole total of 3-under par 141. Ruiz offset two bogeys with four birdies for his opening-round 70, which is his best 18-hole score of the season. He opened round two with a double bogey on the par 3, 7th hole, but posted a birdie on the 8th hole. He was 2-over par after nine holes before posting birdies on three of his final nine, including each of his last two, for his second-round 71.
Ben Wheeler, the 2014 Big South Champion, is tied for 11th. He shot an opening-round 3-under par 69 and was tied for third. He birdied three of his first five holes to open round one and finished the round with five against two birdies. In round two, the senior posted 13 pars with two birdies and three bogeys.
Ryan Carpenter is tied for 18th as he tied a career-low for 36 holes with a even par 144 (72-72). He opened the Championship with an eagle on his first hole, the par 5, 8th hole. However, he had a bogey on the following hole and a double on hole 11. He worked his score to 2-under thanks to birdies on holes 13, 16 and 17 before suffering bogeys on holes 2 and 3 to finish with an even par 72. His round was more consistent in round two, posting 14 pars with two birdies and two bogeys.
Olle Widegren posted an opening-round 75 but rallied to shoot an even par 72 to move up seven spots and is tied for 27th with a 3-over 147. The sophomore opened the Championship with a par of birdies and finished with four but had seven bogeys for his opening-round 75. Widegren bounced back with four birdies and four bogeys in round two for his 72.
