April 24, 2015 PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - For the Coastal Carolina men's and women's track programs, day two at the Penn Relays included a qualification for one of Saturday's championships as well as a pair of top-five finishes.
On the men's side, the day was highlighted by the 4x200 meter relay team of Therius Styles, Kahlim Denmark, DeAndra Lipscomb and Alexander Hass, who won their heat by more than two seconds as they clocked the second-fastest time in school history with a race of 1:25.76. It was good for a ninth-place finish in the event and qualified the foursome for Saturday's Championship of America Invitational.
Later in the day, junior hurdler Desmond Wallace placed 12th in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.09 seconds, finishing just .01 seconds shy of his season and personal-best as well as .02 seconds off the school record. Wallace just missed out on qualifying for Saturday's championship.
On the women's side, the shuttle hurdle relay team of Camille Hurley, Olivia Coopwood, Christina Davis and Jessica Gelibert headlined the Chanticleers' performances on Friday as they earned another medal for the team. In their first such event of the season, the group placed fourth after running a race of 58.09 seconds, the second-fastest time in program history.
Earlier in the day, Amirah Al-Bayyinah won the Chanticleers' second medal of the weekend after finishing fifth in the women's triple jump with a mark of 12.45 meters (40'10.25"), her second-best jump of the spring.
Lastly, freshman Chloe White capped off Friday's events with a ninth-place finish in the javelin, posting a mark of 43.32 meters. White has finished in the top 10 in each of the six meets she has competed in this spring.
Saturday's events, beginning with the men's 10,000 meter race at 7 a.m. and concluding with the men's 4x400 meter relays at 6 p.m., will conclude the 121st running of the Penn Relays.
