April 25, 2015 PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - The Coastal Carolina track and field program capped off the three-day weekend at the Penn Relays with a pair of top-five finishes as well as an appearance in the men's 4x200 Championship of America Invitational.
Senior jumper Reggie Nelson earned the Chanticleers' first medal of the day and fourth of the weekend with a mark of 2.12 meters (6'11.5"), good for a fourth-place finish. At last year's meet, Nelson cleared his personal-best mark of 2.16 meters (7'1").
Later in the afternoon, the women's 4x400 meter relay team of Jessica Gelibert, Christal Green, Teka Simpson and Camille Hurley ran a season-best time of 3:37.85 and also finished fourth in the event. The pace was good for the third-fastest time in program history.
Also, after qualifying for the Championship of America Invitational with a time of 1:25.76 on Friday, the men's 4x200 meter relay team of Therius Styles, Kahlim Denmark, DeAndra Lipscomb and Alexander Hass ran a race of 1:26.46 and finished ninth.
Additional results for Coastal Carolina in the final day of the competition included a 15th-place finish by Ryan Minor in the hammer throw, a 26th-place finish by Robert Castellani in the javelin and a 31st-place finish by Derrick Kinloch, Jr. in the triple jump.
The Chanticleers will take next weekend off before hosting their third meet of the season in the Chanticleer Classic on Friday, May 8 at the CCU Track and Field Facility.
