April 3, 2015 AUBURN, Ala. - The Coastal Carolina track and field programs turned in eight top-10 finishes, including a win and five personal-best performances, in day one of the Auburn Tiger Track classic in Auburn, Ala., on Friday afternoon.
Kyla van Graan paced the Chanticleers with an individual title in the women's 5,000-meter race with a time of 17:10.95 while Chloe White finished second in the women's javelin with a personal-best distance of 45.24 meters (148'5"), the third-farthest throw in Coastal Carolina history. It was van Graan's first outdoor win of her career and White's fourth top-10 finish in as many meets this season.
Additionally, fellow thrower Tiffani Kuhn finished seventh in the competition with a throw of 39.33 meters (129'0") while Robert Castellani set a new personal-best with a throw of 61.66 meters (202'3") in the men's javelin, good for a fourth-place finish. Jumper Amirah Al-Bayyinah finished fourth with a new personal-best of 12.76 meters (41'10.5") in the women's triple jump and Derrick Kinlooch, Jr. finished 10th on the men's side with a personal-best of 14.50 meters (47'7").
Junior Ryan Minor just missed qualifying for the men's hammer throw finals as his mark of 56.52 meters (185'5") came up less than a meter shy of finishing in the top nine. Sophomore Elijah Shaw finished sixth in the men's 5,000-meter run with a time of 16:20.85.
The Chanticleers will wrap up the meet with Saturday's competition.
