HIGH POINT, N.C. - After day two of the Big South Conference Championships, the Coastal Carolina men and women each currently sit in second place. The women trail Liberty by 25.5 points while the men trail the Flames by 124.5 points.Â
Reggie Nelson won back-to-back high jump championships as he matched a personal-best with a height of 2.16 meters (7-01). Nelson's mark tied Kyle Wheeler's meet record. Also, Brandon Richardson finished tied for fourth in the event with a mark of 2.10 meters (6-07).
Teka Simpson earned her second individual title of the championships as she won the women's high jump with a season-best height of 1.68 meters (5-06).
Emma Kroger finish with All-Big South honors as she placed tied for second after clearing a height of 3.70 meters (12-1.50), good for the third-best jump in Coastal Carolina history.
Also, Jalacy Green finished fourth in the women's shot put with a mark of 13.80 meters (45-03.50).
On the men's side, Zach Bolton and Ryan Minor combined to earn five points in the shot put as they earned three and two points, respectively, with throws of 14.71 meters (48-3.25) and 14.67 meters (48-1.75).
Joseph Keitt finished fourth and earned five points in the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9:11.70.
Additionally, Minor finished eighth in the men's discus and earned a point with a throw of 44.22 meters (145-01).
In terms of qualifying for Saturday's championships, Jessica Gelibert, Camille Hurley and Christina Davis qualified for the women;s 100-meter hurdles, while Symphony Thompson, Ruby Durham and Stephanie Taylor-Pollock qualified for the 100-meter dash. Also, Hurley and Christal Green qualified for the women's 400-meter dash, while Aynslee van Graan and Imani Boatwright finished first and fourth and qualified for the 800-meter run.
For the men, Alexander Hass again ran the top qualifying time in the 400-meter dash with a time of 48.13 seconds, while DeAndra Lipscomb and Steve Carr also qualified for Saturday's finals with times of 48.76 seconds and 49.33 seconds, respectively.
Kahlim Denmark ran a time of 10.65 seconds in the 100-meter prelims and finished first, while Therius Styles and Desmond Wallace finished third and sixth, respectively, with times of 10.73 seconds and 10.85 seconds.
The Chanticleers will wrap up the Big South Championships on Saturday as the women try to earn their ninth conference title and the men fight for their third conference title.
