
Coastal Carolina Men's Golf Adds Two

CONWAY - Coastal Carolina men's golf coach Kevin McPherson announced the signing of Thadd Obecny II and Daniel Overas. The pair will join fellow signee Luis Ruiz.
Obecny (Wheeling, W. Va./Wheeling Park HS/Univ. of Central Florida) is transferring to Coastal Carolina from UCF, where he played in three events for the Golden Knights this past season. He posted top 25 finish in the Hartford Hawks Invitational, carding a season-low round of 72 in the opening round.
Prior to UCF, Obecny won two West Virginia individual state championships and was runner-up once. He additionally led Wheeling Park to two team state championships Obecny was ranked among the top 20 in the 2014 Polo golf ranking and had stroke average of 72.7, which was among the top 10 in the rankings. He placed sixth in the 2014 West Virginia Amateur and was named the West Virginia Junior Player of the Year in 2011. In addition to his success on the course, he was a three-time Ohio Valley Conference All-Academic Athlete.
Overas (Vestnes, Norway/Aalesund Vidergaaende Skole) has been part of the Norwegian Golf Federation junior program since he was 14 and was one of six players on the Norway National Under-18 Team in 2013. This past November, he placed sixth at the Evolve Spanish Junior Championship.
He finished fifth at the 2012 McGregor Trophy in England, one of the biggest tournaments for boys under the age of 16 in Europe, and finished second to receive a silver medal in the 2013 European Boys Team Championship in Scotland. Overas won the finale of the 2014 Titleist Tour in Denmark, which featured the top 20 players from Norway's top junior tour, and finished fourth on the 2014 Titleist Tour order of merit for players under 19, He also finished eighth on the 2014/15 NorgesCup order of merit for players of all ages in Norway.
