BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. - Junior Brock Hunter was impressive in his first career start while Zach Remillard was 3-for-4 with two RBI to lead #27 and second seed Coastal Carolina to an 8-0 win versus third seeded Winthrop in the second round of the Big South Championship, played at Gardner-Webb's Henry H. Moss Stadium.

The Chanticleers (37-18) have been dominate in their first two games of the tournament, pounding out 30 hits and scoring 18 runs while opponents have yet to score while collecting just six hits. The Eagles (39-17) were perhaps the hottest team in the Big South entering the game as they had won 14 straight versus league opponents, including sweeps in each of their last four conference series.

Coastal Carolina will have a bye on Thursday and will return to action Friday at approximately 1:00-1:30 pm versus an opponent to be determined. Two games have to be played before CCU will know its opponent Friday.

Hunter (4-0) made his first career start in what was his 58th appearance in a Chanticleer uniform. The left-handed pitcher has been primarily a specialist versus opponents' left-handed hitters as Hunter had thrown just 62.1 innings in his first 57 appearances. He responded Wednesday by throwing a career-high 5.2 scoreless innings while allowing three hits and two walks with four strikeouts. Only one Eagle reached second base as Anthony Paulsen hit a one-out double.

In addition to Remillard's offense, Anthony Marks, Michael Paez and Billy Cooke each added two hits while G.K. Young hit a home run for the second time in as many games at the championship.

Coastal got its offense going early as Marks hit the first pitch of the bottom of the first inning through the left side of the infield. After a Paez sacrifice bunt, Connor Owings delivered an RBI double down the right field line for an early 1-0 lead.

Marks helped CCU take a 2-0 lead in the second. Cooke, who was 2-for-2 with two walks and two runs scored, drew a two-out walk and stole second. Marks then lined an RBI single just over the out-stretched arm of Winthrop shortstop Kyle Edwards to bring home Cooke.

The Chanticleers exploded for four runs in the fifth inning to take a 6-0 lead. Paez hit a leadoff single and Owings followed with a walk. Paez stole third and scored on the play thanks to a throwing error. Owings, who stole second on the previous play, scored on a Zach Remillard double. Two batters later, Young hits two-run home run off the scoreboard in right-center field. Young, who also hit a home run in the tournament opener, now has nine round-trippers this season.

Coastal added two runs in the sixth to provide the eventual 8-0 final. Cooke reached on an infield hit and advanced to third after a stolen base and groundout. Paez hit an infield single ball deep in the hole at shortstop, which allowed Cooke to score while an error on the play allowed Paez to take second. Remillard then hit a two-strike single to center to drive in Paez.

Matt Crohan (7-4) was saddled with the loss, allowing 10 hits and six runs in five-plus innings. Earlier in the season, Crohan shut down Coastal as the Eagles won the series finale on Mar. 29 to avoid a weekend sweep. Crohan only allowed one hit through eight innings while striking out 12.
