JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Coastal Carolina senior jumper Reggie Nelson qualified for his second consecutive NCAA Championship in the men's high jump by clearing a final height of 2.13 meters (6-11.75) and finishing eighth overall on Friday afternoon at the University of North Florida's Hodges Stadium.

Nelson made it through his jump progression nearly unscathed. He cleared heights of 1.99 meters (6-06.25), 2.09 meters (6-10.25) and 2.13 meters (6-11.75) on his first attempt and clipped the bar on his first attempt at 2.04 meters (6-08.25) before clearing it on his second jump.

The Dillon, S.C., native becomes just the fifth male track athlete in Coastal Carolina history to qualify for multiple NCAA Championships, which will be held from June 10-13 at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore. Last season, Nelson finished 10th in the NCAA East Preliminary Round after clearing a height of 2.14 meters (7-0.25) and earned Honorable Mention All-American honors after finishing 19th in the NCAA Championships.

Also for the Chanticleers, Jessica Gelibert competed in the 100-meter hurdles, the second of two events she qualified in for the preliminary round, but failed to move on to Saturday's quarterfinal as she finished 32nd despite running a 13.62-second race, her third best of the season.

On the men's side, Desmond Wallace competed in the 110-meter hurdles but also failed to finish among the top 24. Like Gelibert, Wallace crossed the finish line fifth in his heat and 32nd overall after running a 14.23-second race.

Top cap off the evening, senior sprinter Alexander Hass ran a 21.35-second race in the 200-meter dash, his third-best time of the season, but failed to qualify for tomorrow's quarterfinal as he finished tied for 29th in the event. Similarly, running mate Therius Styles couldn't crack the top 24 after running a 21.60-second race and finishing 38th.

The third and final day of the preliminary round begins with the men's hammer throw at 1:30 p.m. and concludes with the men's 4x400 relay at 9:45 p.m. For Coastal Carolina, junior jumper Amirah Al-Bayyinah is scheduled to compete in the triple jump at 4 p.m., while the men's 4x100 relay quartet of Kahlim Denmark, Hass, DeAndra Lipscomb and Styles will run at 6 p.m. The top-12 finishers in both events will advance to Eugene, Ore., for the NCAA Championships.
