June 12, 2015 EUGENE, Ore. - Coastal Carolina senior jumper Reggie Nelson was named an honorable mention All-American after clearing a height of 2.08m (6-09.75) and finishing tied for 20th at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore., on Friday afternoon.
Nelson cleared the opening height of 2.08m (6-09.75) on his first attempt and put himself in a good position to contend throughout the event. However, he then failed on all three jumps at the next progression of 2.12m (6-11.50) and was taken out of contention.
He tied with jumpers from Nebraska and Penn and finished ahead of competitors from Kansas State and Mississippi.
Jacorian Duffield of Texas Tech went on to win the championship after clearing a height of 2.28m (7-05.75).
Nelson, who was competing in the NCAA Championships for the second consecutive year, ends his Chanticleer career as a two-time All-American, two-time Big South champion and five-time All-Big South honoree. Additionally, Nelson's personal record of 2.16m (7-01.00) is good for the second-best mark in Coastal Carolina history and tied for the third-best in Big South history.
