Women's Golf Posts 23rd Highest GPA In The Nation

2015 WGCA All-Scholar Team GPA Award Release 
CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. - For the fourth time in program history, the Coastal Carolina University's women's golf team finished inside the top 25 in the nation in team GPA, posting a 3.648 GPA during the 2014-15 season to finish 23rd, announced the Women's Golf Coaches Association.
The University of New Mexico was honored as the recipient of the WGCA All-Scholar Team GPA Award after posting a 3.799 team GPA this past season. The list includes teams from all four divisions of golf (I, II, III, NAIA).
"This is a tremendous honor for our team," said head coach Katie Quinney. "Our players have worked hard all year long on and off the golf course. To be able to compete at a high level and to be great students is something very special."
Coastal was the only Big South Conference program and the only institution in South Carolina recognized in the top 25. The honor marks the fourth time the Chanticleer program has been recognized with the prestigious honor. Coastal also earned the award for the 2004-05, 2011-12 and 2012-13 seasons.
Coastal recently had four members of its lineup named to the NGCA All-American Scholar Team; Frida Castillo, Malene Krolboll Hansen, Emee Herbert and Lena Schaeffner. Each earned a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or better to qualify for the award.
The WGCA, founded in 1983, is a non-profit organization representing women's collegiate golf coaches at the Division I, II and III levels. The NGCA was formed to encourage the playing of college golf for women in correlation with a general objective of education and in accordance with the highest tradition of intercollegiate competition. Today, the NGCA represents more than 550 coaches throughout the U.S. and is dedicated to educating, promoting and recognizing both its members and the student-athletes they represent.
