ELON, N.C. - The Coastal Carolina University women's soccer team fell to Elon 1-0 off a free kick in the 51st minute to give the Phoenix the victory.

The loss moves the Chanticleers to 3-4-0 on the season while the Phoenix improve to a 5-1-0.

Both teams struggled to put together an offense throughout the game as Elon finished with a 13-10 edge in shots. The Phoenix held a 10-7 advantage in the second half after an even shot match up in the first 45 minutes. Elon totaled three shots on goal, while the Chants had four.

Coastal had a dangerous scoring opportunity 15 minutes into the half off of a cross from Amber Adams. Adams ignited the play with a ball into the box from the left flank towards the back post where Madi Simons was able to volley it towards the goal but hit off the cross bar. The ball popped out to the top of the box to Daniella Famili who took a low shot but was blocked by an Elon defender.

The play remained even throughout the half as both teams' tallied three shots each to end the first half.

The Phoenix had an early chance in the second half of a corner kick but in a mix of players, Becca Austin was there to clean up the mess.

Elon broke the scoreless tie in the 51st minute to take the lead. Phoenix's Mel Insley tallied the game's only goal off a free kick outside the box. Insley drilled the ball into the top of the right corner to get the go ahead goal.

Amber Adams generated some offense in the final minutes of the game after breaking behind the defense multiple times and recorded two shots on goal. Adams ended the night leading the Chant's in shots with two while eight other Chanticleers each tallied one.

The Chanticleers return home next Wednesday Sept. 16 as they take on ACC member NC State at 6 p.m. Admission is free for all CCU students and to the general public or watch the game live on the Big South Network.
