CONWAY - Coastal Carolina forward Kayla Christian has been named the Choice Hotels Big South Conference Attacking Player of the Week, the league announced Monday.
Christian earned her first-ever Player of the Week honor after scoring the game winning goal in the Chanticleer's 2-1 overtime victory against NC State in last week's match on Wednesday evening.
With eight seconds remaining in the first overtime, Christian received a through ball from Amber Adams to go 1v1 with the goalkeeper to knock one off the post for the game-winner. Christian's game-winning goal performance gave the Chants their first program win over an ACC school.
The freshman from Chantilly, Va., now has two game-winners on the year while leading the team in goals recording a total of five on the season while tallying one assist.
The last Chanticleer to receive an Attacking Player of the Week honor was the 2014 Big South Attacking Player of the Year, Kacey Kelley in October of 2014.
Coastal opens up conference play on the road in Clinton, S.C. on Wednesday Sept. 23, taking on the Presbyterian Blue Hoes.
