CONWAY - Senior middle blocker Eszter Nagy of the Coastal Carolina volleyball team has been named the Choice Hotels Big South Player of the Week, the league announced on Monday. Nagy is earning the conference's Player of the Week honor for the second time in her career.
Nagy led Coastal to three straight road wins last week as the Chanticleers knocked off South Carolina in four sets before sweeping Winthrop and Presbyterian to kick off their conference schedule.
A native of Budapest, Hungary, Nagy's .512 hitting percentage led all Coastal hitters with 20 or more attack attempts. She also averaged 2.60 kills per set over the three matches, including a team-high of 11 at Winthrop to lead Coastal to a 3-0 victory in its conference opener.
Nagy's 1.10 blocks per set (11 total) also led the Chants, and helped limit Coastal's three opponents to a combined .096 hitting percentage. The senior added three service aces on the week, one of which broke a 22-22 tie late in the fourth set at South Carolina and allowed Coastal to close out the match.
Nagy's .413 season hitting percentage currently leads the Big South, while her 0.81 blocks per game pace the Chanticleers. She is also averaging 2.35 kills per set, good for second on the team.
Nagy and the Chanticleers return to The HTC Center on Friday looking to extend their unbeaten conference record against High Point. The Panthers currently occupy second place in the Big South with an 11-6, 1-0 record.
