CONWAY - Coastal Carolina University head women's basketball coach Jaida Williams announced Friday the schedule for the 2015-16 season. The 42nd season of Chanticleer women's basketball features 29 total games, including 20 games against Big South Conference opponents and 14 home games to be played at The HTC Center. Also included on the schedule is a trip to Puerto Rico as the Chants compete in the San Juan Shootout on Nov. 27 and 28.
"I am extremely excited to release our schedule for the 2015-16 season," said Williams. "Our nonconference schedule should be exciting as we're facing a tough slate of opponents. I'm even more pleased to be able to offer our student-athletes a chance to see Puerto Rico and compete in the San Juan Shootout. Competition in the Big South is as strong as ever, and should make for a great conference schedule."
Coastal opens its season at home on Nov. 13, hosting Mid-Atlantic Christian for its first of nine nonconference contests. The Chanticleers follow their season opener with a trip to Clemson on Nov. 15. It will mark the first meeting between the Chants and Tigers since the 2003-04 season. Coastal remains on the road for a game at Saint Francis (Nov. 18) before returning to The HTC Center on Nov. 22 to host Allen University.
The Chanticleers' first appearance in the San Juan Shootout -- held in Puerto Rico since 1987 -- features games against Sacred Heart (Nov. 27) and Hofstra (Nov. 28). Each contest will be played in the Mario Quijote Morales Colisuem in Guaynabo. Also competing in this year's San Juan Shootout are Oregon State, Arkansas, Louisiana Lafayette, Stetson, Minnesota, Auburn and Boise State.
Coastal returns from Puerto Rico on Dec. 1 to open its Big South Conference schedule against Campbell at The HTC Center. The game is scheduled for 3 p.m.
The Chants remain at home to host Warren Wilson (Dec. 9) and Big South opponent UNC Asheville (Dec. 14) before taking on Wake Forest at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center on Dec. 18 as part of the CresCom Bank Carolinas Challenge. Coastal closes its nonconference schedule against Wofford at The HTC Center on Dec. 21.
Coastal fully enters conference play after the holiday break with back-to-back road games at Radford (Dec. 29) and Gardner-Webb (Jan. 2). The Chants return home briefly on Jan. 4 to host Longwood before playing consecutive away games at High Point (Jan. 9) and Charleston Southern (Jan. 12).
The Chanticleers' first game against Liberty will take place at The HTC Center on Jan. 16. Coastal faces two more away contests at Presbyterian (Jan. 19) and Campbell (Jan. 26) before closing the month of January at home against Radford on the 30th.
The final month of the regular season features nine games, including five at home against High Point (Feb. 4), Charleston Southern (Feb. 9), Presbyterian (Feb. 16), Gardner-Webb (Feb. 20) and Winthrop (Feb. 27) to close out the schedule.
Coastal's away games in the month of February include at UNC Asheville (Feb. 1), Winthrop (Feb. 6), Liberty (Feb. 13) and Longwood (Feb. 23).
Coastal is scheduled to host the VisitMyrtleBeach.com Big South Basketball Championships for a fourth straight year. The women begin the tournament with the first round on March 1 and the quarterfinals on March 2. The women's semifinals will take place on March 3 after the men's first round games conclude.
