Jan. 15, 2016 BLACKSBURG, Va. - The Coastal Carolina women's indoor track and field team claimed one first and one third place finish at the Virginia Tech Invitational in their first action of the 2015 season on Friday evening.
The Chanticleers claimed two of the top three spots in the 3,000 meters as Kyla van Graan took first and was followed right behind by fellow cross country and sister Anyslee van Graan who took third. Kyla van Graan crossed the finish line in 10:02.73, while Aynslee van Graan clocked 10:09.10. The duo was split by Army West Point's, Madison Hill.
Senior Kelila Naules and newcomers Anacia Hines and TeeAsiah Vance were each top contenders in their heats but just missed the advancing top times in the 60 meter dash. Naules and Hines each had the fastest times for the Chants crossing the line at 7.83 seconds. Vance followed closely behind crossing with a time of 7.92.
Naules also led the Chants in the Long Jump event jumping 5.40 meters to earn a 10th place finish. Teammates Teka Simpson (5.29 meters) and Kelsey Briggs (4.98 meters) joined Naules in the long jump.
Lisha Van Onselen was the lone Chant in the mile run crossing the line with a time of 5:13.32 placing 10th, respectively. Freshman Hines ran a 9.07 in the 60 meter hurdles placing fourth in her heat but was just short of advancing.
Also for the Chants, Brianna Cristiano tied for seventh place with her best jump at 3.22 meters (10-6 ½) on the pole vault (unseeded), while Caroline Pallini's best mark in the weight throw came in at 12.85 meters (42-2).
The meet continues on Saturday as action gets underway at 11 a.m. and concludes with the 4x400 relay at 4:00 p.m.
