Chants Suffer 73-52 Loss at Campbell

BUIES CREEK, N.C. - The Coastal Carolina women's basketball team lost its third straight on Saturday as the Chanticleers fell by a 73-52 margin in Big South action at Campbell's Gore Arena.

Coastal (7-12, 2-8) entered the game directly ahead of Campbell (8-12, 3-8) in the Big South standings, but now finds itself a game behind after its second loss to the Camels this season.

Saturday's game mirrored the first meeting between the teams earlier this season on Dec. 1 as Campbell posted strong shooting efforts on both occasions, finishing over 51.0 percent from the field. Campbell's Sarah Smith also turned in her second big performance against the Chants this year, leading the Camels with 15 points to follow up her 19-point afternoon on Dec. 1. Smith was instrumental in helping Campbell build its lead in the first half as the sophomore forward tallied 10 points, and five of the Camels' seven field goals, in the second quarter.

Coastal's Nicole Isaacs likewise had another big game against Campbell, leading all players with 23 points on 8-of-23 from the field, including six 3-pointers, and one free throw. Isaacs, the only Chant to reach double figures, set her Coastal career high of 32 points in the Dec. 1 game against Campbell.

Campbell built a double-digit lead in the first quarter as the Chants were outscored 26-8 over the opening 10 minutes. Coastal's deficit increased to 20 points in the second quarter, and hovered around that mark for the remainder of the contest. Campbell's largest lead of the afternoon came in the fourth quarter when the Camels led by 27 with just under six minutes remaining.

Besides Smith, Jessica Pone and Amanda Coffer scored in double figures for Campbell with 12 and 10 points, respectively.

For the fourth straight game the Chants were called for over 20 fouls, and Campbell converted 17 of its 22 attempts from the line.

Coastal closed the game 26.1 percent from the field as the Chants made 18 of 69 shots, the third time in the last six games that Coastal has recorded over 60 field goal attempts. Coastal was additionally 25.7 percent from beyond the arc as Yasmin Miller, Olivia Carlton and Breelyn Blanding each added a 3-pointer to bring the Chants' total makes to nine on 35 attempts, the second-most 3-point attempts of the season following the 36 versus Liberty on Jan. 19.

Coastal's current three-game skid matches the team's longest of the season. The previous slide started with losses to Sacred Heart and Hofstra in Puerto Rico and was capped by the loss to Campbell on Dec. 1.

The Chants will look to right the ship on Monday when they return to The HTC Center to host Radford for a 7 p.m. game. The Highlanders took the first game back on Dec. 29 by a 61-45 score.
