Men's Tennis Tops Richmond In Season Opener

RICHMOND, Va. - The Coastal Carolina men's tennis team opened the 2016 season with a 5-2 win Saturday in an indoor versus Richmond at the Raintree Tennis Club.
"We played a tight match today," said head coach Chris Powers. "Playing indoors is always a different animal for us, but the guys really fought hard against a solid Richmond squad. There are a lot of things we can improve on but the effort was there today."
Richmond grabbed an early 1-0 after securing the doubles point with wins on the first and third courts.
Jacob Dunbar and Canyon Teague topped Vuk Velickovic and Rick Timmerman, 6-4, at No. 1 while Brice Polender and Caleb Troy won the by same score against Luiz Faria and Pedroe Leme at No. 3.
Jabor Al-Mutawa and Sebastian Schneider won the No. 2 doubles match against Alexandre Felisa and Jonathan Quenard.
The Chants took five of the six singles points with Velickovic and Timmerman winning in straight sets on the second and fifth courts, respectively.
Al-Mutawa (No. 1), Schneider (No. 4) and Leme (No. 6) won their respective matches in three sets.
Coastal remains on the road for its next match at William & Mary on Sunday, set for noon.
