KIAWAH ISLAND - The Coastal Carolina men's golf program closed the fall portion of its schedule by shooting a 54-hole score of 892 (298-290-304) and placing fifth in the 22-team East Bay Deli Classic at Kiawah, played at the par-72, 6,911-yard Turtle Point Golf Course.
Despite heavy winds, Tennessee shot a 2-under par 286 Tuesday to jump two spots and win the three-day event with a score of 867. Augusta was second (871), followed by College of Charleston (877), Jacksonville State (879) and Coastal Carolina (892).
Ryan Carpenter posted back-to-back rounds of 71, recording 10 birdies over the final two rounds, to finish seventh with a three-round total of 1-under par 215 (73-71-71). Carpenter posted four straight birdies over holes 12 to 15 en route to his 71 Tuesday.
Thadd Obecny II shot a final-round 78 and finished with a 54-hole score of 223 (71-74-78) to finish in a tie for 27th. Alfredo Ruiz also carded a final-round 78 Tuesday and tied for 36th with a score of 226 (76-72-78). States Fort tied for 48th with a three-day total of 228 (78-73-77). Olle Widegren rounded out CCU's fivesome with a score of 240 (86-76-78) to tie for 101st.
Coastal Carolina will return to action on Feb. 26 at the annual John Hayt Collegiate, played at Sawgrass Country Club.
