CONWAY - Coastal Carolina head volleyball coach Jozsef Forman announced Wednesday the four members of the 2017 recruiting class. Kyla Manning, Kaylah House, Haylie Beck and Kennedy Hehr are all set to join the Chanticleer volleyball team for next season.
"We are very proud to welcome Kyla, Kaylah, Haylie and Kennedy to the Chanticleer family," said Forman. "They are very talented athletes, outstanding students and high-character players. I believe they will make an immediate impact on our program."
Kyla Manning
Outside Hitter
Atlanta, Ga.
Manning played for her varsity team at Chamblee HS where she served as her team's captain for three seasons. Manning was named an All-Area selection during both the 2014 and 2015 seasons, and added All-State honors as a senior in 2016. The 6-0 outside hitter also played club volleyball for A5 South under head coach Joe Wigham.
Manning: "I chose CCU because I'm excited about being part of a program that is building so fast. Everyone on board is committed to getting better and I can't wait to see how far my game improves as a Chant."
Forman: "Kyla is a well-rounded player who has the ability to be a six rotation player for CCU. She has a strong front-row presence and a great feeling when passing. We expect her to contribute to our team as soon as she steps foot in the gym."
Kaylah House
Opposite
Atlanta, Ga.
House, a 6-3 right-hander, played club volleyball alongside Manning at A5 South under coach Wigham. She was also a four-year varsity player at Westlake HS from 2013-16. House, who also served as the varsity captain, was voted the team's MVP while garnering All-Area accolades.
House: "I chose CCU because of its developing program, which I'm very excited to be a part of. I also chose it because of the coaching staff, which is committed to helping the team develop as players and individuals. The location of the school was also a major factor. Overall I'm just excited to be a part of the Chanticleer family and can't wait to be a Chant."
Forman: "Kaylah is a great athlete and is bringing a lot of size to our team. She is a big presence at the net with her heavy arm swing. Her blocking ability is very dominant and that will be very important to our team defense. We are really excited to see her contribution to our team next fall."
Wigham (A5 South): "Kyla is a dynamic athlete with a big arm, while Kaylah is a physical presence at the net who will be a defensive force at the next level. Both players will bring size and athleticism to Coastal Carolina."
Haylie Beck
Defensive Specialist/Outside Hitter
Powell, Ohio
Beck previously played club volleyball for Buckeye Volleyball Club before joining her current club, Mintonette. The 5-7 outside hitter/defensive specialist also served as team captain at Olentangy Liberty HS, where she helped the Patriots to a 20-6 overall record in 2016 and a district championship in 2015.
Beck: "I chose Coastal Carolina to continue my playing career because of the great program and coaches. I feel at home at CCU and feel that I'll have many opportunities to succeed."
Forman: "Haylie is a great defender that also has experience as an outside hitter, which allows her to contribute to our team in multiple ways. Haylie comes from a great family with a lot of athleticism, and we look forward to her arrival on campus."
Kennedy Hehr
Defensive Specialist
Fontana, Wis.
Hehr was a team captain at Big Foot HS where she accumulated a number of accolades, including all-conference honorable mention in 2016; all-state honorable mention, first team all-conference and team MVP in 2015; and freshman all-conference honorable mention in 2013. Hehr also plays club volleyball for Club Fusion under director Eric Schulze.
Hehr: "I chose CCU for a number of reasons. I've always wanted to play Division I volleyball for a program that would offer me an opportunity to grow personally, academically and athletically within a culture of integrity, and that's what I'll get at Coastal. During my visit with Coach Forman and the rest of the staff there was no doubt in my mind that I wanted to spend four years as a Chanticleer."
Forman: "Kennedy will be a big addition to our defensive specialist position. She is a true fighter that will provide our team with a lot of energy, and her determination will help our program be a top defensive team in the country."
Schulze: "Kennedy is an accomplished player that will rise to the occasion on the biggest stage. She will bring a high volleyball IQ, confidence and a competitive attitude to the program that her teammates will appreciate. She's a true libero that brings elite passing, defense and serve to the court. Kennedy can be defined by her resiliency, and she plays with a chip on her shoulder. She has the skills and mindset to contribute to Coastal Carolina the day she arrives on campus."
