Chants Unable to Rally Against Kansas

Feb. 13, 2016

Final Stats

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Coastal Carolina softball team dropped in its Saturday game to Kansas, after a late rally bid fell short in a 5-1 decision.

Another defensive battle this weekend for the Chanticleers until the bottom of the third when Kansas hit a homer to left field taking an early 3-0 lead over Coastal.

Morgan Noad singled through the right field to start things off for the Chants. Noad steals second to push the Chants into scoring position but Kansas pitcher was able to strike out Kelsey Dominik for the third out.

Top of the third, Bri Chiusano earned a single after a tough battle with the Kansas pitcher. With two outs, Chiusano steals second to get in good scoring position for the Chants however unable to create any offense off of Noads pop fly to right field to end the inning.

Kansas' Daniella Chaves hit a homerun to left field driving in two runs giving Kansas a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the third. Dominik made up for this deficit striking out two batters with the help of an infield out to close inning three.

Dominik feeling the momentum hit a fly ball to center field but just short of homerun territory for the first out. The following pitch, Mackenzie Conrad hit a homerun to left field to put the Chants on the board trailing by two. Chelsea D'Avilar hits a line drive down the middle slipping the ball just under the pitchers glove to reach first base. As D'Avilar was advancing to second, she was hit by the ball for the third out of the inning.

Bottom of the fourth Kansas answers Conrad's homerun with a homer into right field taking the lead 4-1.

Keeping Coastal alive, Timi Tooley makes a full out dive for the second out of the sixth inning stealing a single from the Kansas batter. Coastal was looking for the third out but KU hit a fly ball to right field just over Tooley for a triple. Despite Coastals defensive efforts, Kansas was able to drive in a runner before the end of the inning to make it 5-1 over Coastal.

Heading into the 7th inning, Tooley hits a line drive down left to try and rally back from the 5-1 lead. A fly ball to right field from Alexis Alvino was caught by Kansas for out number two but advancing Tooley to second. Bri Chiusano grounded out giving the Chants two outs. Taty Forbes singled putting Chants on first and third in good scoring position. Senior Morgan Noad was able to make contact but hit a fly ball to right field for out number three to end the game.

Coastal ended the game with seven hits to Kansas' eight. Dominik suffered her second loss of the season now 0-2.
