JACKSONVILLE - Danielle Della Rocca scored four goals and added four assists to lead Jacksonville to a 16-4 victory over Coastal Carolina on Sunday afternoon at D.B. Milne Field.
Jaime Chapman, Jody Julmice and Lillie Miller tallied two goals apiece for the Dolphins, and Jacksonville's Hannah Wilcox chipped in with a goal and two assists. Sara Nolan (two goals, one assist) led Coastal Carolina with three points, while Sophie Crowther scored two goals.
With the win, Jacksonville (1-3) notched its first win of the year and snapped a three-game slide. The Chanticleers are still seeking their first victory, as they slipped to 0-2 on the young season. The victory also improved Jacksonville's all-time record against Coastal Carolina to 2-0.
Jacksonville jumped out to an early lead before Nolan evened the ledger 10:06 into the contest, off a feed from Haley Alexander. The Dolphins gained a 2-1 advantage with 17:10 left before the half, as Jaime Chapman found the back of the net. Less than a minute later, Sophie Crowther tied it at 2-all, off a pass from Nolan. The Dolphins fired back with four unanswered goals, as Kelly Lacy, Lillie Miller, Jody Julmice and Amelia Pedwell scored to give Jacksonville a 6-2 lead at the half.
Jacksonville came out fast after the break, scoring five goals in the first 12 minutes of the second half to gain an 11-2 edge. Nolan got the Chanticleers back on the board with 16:33 left in regulation, but the Dolphins effectively put the game away with five more scores before time expired.
Jacksonville outpaced Coastal Carolina in shots 33-12 and ground balls 21-14. Coastal Carolina goalie Jenna Stover made 11 saves, while Kaylyn Kearns (three saves) and Mariah Cudlipp combined for four saves for Jacksonville.
The Chanticleers' next game is a non-conference contest on the road at Jacksonville, Fla., as they will take on Niagara on Tuesday, March 1 at noon. Coastal returns home for a game against Mercer on Friday, March 11.
