Coastal Continues Streak With Win Over USC Upstate

CONWAY - The Coastal Carolina women's tennis team extended its current winning streak to six matches on Friday afternoon, downing USC Upstate 6-1 at the Coastal Carolina Tennis Complex.
The win is Coastal's third straight on its home court, and improves the Chants' overall record to 10-3 with three nonconference matches remaining.
Coastal took an early 1-0 match lead as the Chants claimed the second and third doubles courts, while the No. 1 match went unfinished with the Upstate pair of Filippa Ericson and Carol Sigaki leading 4-3.
Marie Babayan and Brooke Campbell opened doubles with a convincing 6-0 win at No. 3, while Natalie Wall and Cari Berry finished the point by a similarly large margin at No. 2, topping Anna Zoske and Vale Zarama 6-2.
Bondar won the first singles point at No. 6 over Kubac, and Berry gave the Chants a 3-0 match lead with a No. 5 win over Nemeth. Each point was decided in straight sets, 6-1, 6-0.
Libby Scott provided the match-winning point for the Chants with a 6-1, 6-2 victory on the top singles court, while Babayan (No. 4) and Romane Delay (No. 3) rounded out Coastal's singles winners.
Ericson tallied the lone point for the Spartans, closing the match with a straight-sets win over Wall at No. 2.
Coastal returns to action with pair of matches on the road against Big South opponents, beginning at Longwood on March 14. The 11 a.m. match against the Lancers is followed by a March 16 match at Campbell.
